Dual Loaded lab 15 Tuba-60 part IV

#16 Post by zefrenm »

Day 5 - Slow day, I hate making the big braces. So decided to make it interesting. Using 3/4 x 1-1/2 popular wood we tried to balanced light with the curves of the center panel. I didn't think it would be this striking.

One question; Installing the panels for the horn path, with both sides already in place - how do you maintain sufficient glue within the joint whilst sliding the panels into place?

When assembling the Tuba this way, I only glue panels to other panels and braces, the sides will be taken off at the end, joints sanded and checked for leaks, then the sides are glued on.

Quite an intriguing take on the construction stages then ZEF, I like it!

Can be quite a challenge trying to install 28inch wide panels square, I always get the feeling it would be infinitely easier with a third hand.

Looking forward to seeing the finished product

first let me say you are the king of the mighty t60! You dont mess around when it comes to building these monsters. I believe your shows must be amazing from the pics you have posted. Now, I need to bring up the elephant in the room. I dont get it. Why oh why oh why not just build 2- 30" boxes? Unless you have a forklift I don't see how that behemoth will be moved. Please dont take this as an attack, I really do respect you, your builds, and admire your drive to build.

His friend /coworker wanted to downsize the number of 'cabs' thus the two stuck together. I think he mentioned that they had a way to move the monster once it's done. Thanks sub harmonic I haven't gotten much sleep between building and work :).

I've been wondering that since the start of the build. Unless you're rocking a fucking forklift I can imagine that big bastard being horrible to move around. Also with it being double width I can imagine that adds a fair whack of leverage for the cab to twist down that centre point.
