Plan for things to take 50 percent longer than you expect and you'll give yourself the time to compensate for inevitable mistakes/delays. Chances are hd will be out of quarter round and Leland will be on backorder for Speakon screws. I'm happy that you finished your cab without having to revisit the lumber yard.

A big +1. When building my OTops, I literally went to Lowes every day for a week straight. I probably spent more in gas than I did for whatever I bought there. Little piddly stuff. Heatshrink, 1" brads, etc. You can never absolutely plan to have everything in advance b/c there will always be "that one thing" you cannot proceed without.MissileCrisis wrote:Plan for things to take 50 percent longer than you expect and you'll give yourself the time to compensate for inevitable mistakes/delays. Re: Titan 39 Build
As expected, I had a visit from Uncle Murphy. I just ran out of time on the assembly, so I only got the mains assembled. It wasn't the end of the world - tonight was just some background music in the parking lot while kids jumped around on the inflatables. The good news is that the mains seem to work fine and I think turned out looking real nice.
Tonight I got the subs wrapped up. It's late, so I couldn't give them a real workout, but I did play a signal through them to ensure they are working, and they seem to make subwoofer-y sounds, so that's good. I tried to get a pic of the finished subs, but the lighting was too crappy. I'll take some better shots tomorrow in better lighting

Only 50%? I find on average every project I do takes me about twice as long as I expect... and today I only had to make two trips to the hardware storeMissileCrisis wrote:Plan for things to take 50 percent longer than you expect and you'll give yourself the time to compensate for inevitable mistakes/delays. Re: Titan 39 Build
Thursday night I got to give the system it's real maiden voyage with the youth band. It was in a smallish room - maybe 1500 sqft or so. Sounded OK in there (just OK). Didn't get a chance to do any tweaking or anything. The subs were definitely kicking, so I was mostly just happy that everything was working.
Today we hauled it all to camp and set up in their large multi-purpose room.

It's a pretty good sized room - gymnasium sized. Now obviously my 1x12" PA speakers and just a pair of T39's isn't going to fill the entire room with bone crushing sound, but I was pleasantly surprised how good it sounded. Really, it just needed to adequately cover the 100 or so kids sitting in front of it, but I was surprised that the sound carried pretty nicely throughout the whole room. I mostly just have the kick and bass going through the subs, but man does that make a huge difference. Of course, they'll be playing music from an iPod or CD player quite a bit, and that sounds down-right amazing. I have to say that initially I was a bit skeptical about 12" subs - even if they were horn loaded. I'm honestly surprised how well they work. I ran the auto-RTA on my processor, and that did a nice job flattening things out - the system sounds really smooth and punchy. Much better than it has any right to sound for how little I have invested in it

Good to hear that it turned out to be a succes. Always nice to pick the fruits of your labour.
Looks like a quality build. Do you have any close up pictures of the subs & tops?

Life is just a game, don't take it to seriously!
Re: Titan 39 Build
Unfortunately all of my close-up pictures have been in crappy lighting with my cell phone, so they look pretty terrible. Really not much to see. Maybe later this week I'll try to take some pics of them with my DSLR.

Re: Titan 39 Build
Looking great!
Not a criticism, but you would have got 3dB extra by V plating your T39's (rather than having them upright side by side), and more again if you had wall loaded them at the rear wall.
The stage area doesn't look terrribly deep and some say tops leading LF isn't to bad, there would only be a 10-15msec difference...

Re: Titan 39 Build
I have a piece of plywood in the garage reserved for a v-plate, but didn't have time to make it yet. We were in a bit of a rush to get set up, and were more concerned with getting them in a location where they wouldn't be messed with than absolute best sound or output. I wasn't too worried about output, honestly - the subs out-run the tops by maybe 6db, so I didn't really feel like I needed to put too much effort into positioning to gain more volume. I only had time to sound check them with one song, so I didn't get time to tweak things much. Honestly, I ran the auto EQ and was quite happy with how it sounded. It pulled out some of the low mids which did help get rid of some mud from the room. The nice thing about having strong subs is you can push the bass and kick and that can cover a multitude of other sins
