Looking good! These drivers are excellent.

Word to the wise - the gaskets on those drivers are in 4 pieces.... and in my experience they leak... in all 4 places! WTF? Ridiculous idea.

You'll (more than likely)need to seal the gasket gaps to prevent leaks.

I just had the same issue. Caulking took care of it.

How do you guys build in your living rooms. I must remember to not bitch about my garage size anymore. Anyway 12'? TLAH would work...maybe SLA if you want full array effect. Either will slaughter a HTIB set and even all but the best of best retail offerings. Bills tops are as good as his bottoms.

Subharmonic, this is a spare room in my house, not living area. I pre cut all the wood in the garage, and I'm building inside. It's hot in Texas, I'm not spending anymore time than I have to out in that s#!t !!! As far as the other speakers, I have been reading the forums, and I'm leaning more towards the SLA's. Originally, I was thinking I would build some beefy 2-way or 3-way speakers. Still not quite sure, I would like the most bang for the buck.

Some SLA's or OTops would give you incredible clarity AND volume and you won't need a ton of power to get them loud, either. Glad to hear your new missus is into HT! That's a great thing. We'll see how much she likes it when you crank the volume. That's the real test.

There is no such thing as "too much" for home theater. Besides, that's what the volume knob is for. You can never have too much power on tap for a HT. There is nothing like watching something like "the lobby scene" from The Matrix at reference volume. Woo-hoo!

Many years ago, I spent a pretty penny on 5 Axiom brand speakers and a monster SVS subwoofer. They have served me well and I still have them. But knowing what I know now, I could built a better-performing system for about half what I spent.

Whatever you decide for mains/center/surround, just make sure they are all voice-matched. I.E. identical drivers. That is a problem many people make for themselves. When all 5 (or 7) speakers are not voice-matched a lot of "audible cues" are lost. I.E. if an on-screen character is talking while walking left to right you will be able to hear the difference in the voice as the sound moves from left front to center to right front speakers. If you know this already, sorry to bore you. If not, my job here is done.

Thanks miked. I definitely am going clarity, but I want the power when I crank it, and obviously no distortion. That scene was always a favorite for showing off my old HT. The minigun in the helicopter with spent casings falling from the sky is badass!

Chuck D would be so proud of you. Looking good! They are gonna pound. Make sure you limit the amp powering those; if you ever blow a driver you're going to have big fun trying to get them out with all that silicone holding them in. They'll never leak though, that's for sure!

Meh. Limiters aren't really needed unless you dont like your stuff or house that holds your stuff. Also if and thats a big if you blow a driver, @ $60 a pop even siliconed in they wouldnt be that big of a deal to get out of a THTLP. OTOH C-Lo may be pissed if the air leaks kill his performance and driver. I ended up caulking the f outa mine too, to be safe.

My favorite airleak tip. Darken the room pitch black, shine light from a flashlight down the panels and look for it from the other side, ifbthere is light you have a problem. PL or caulk it til it is gone. Saved my ass a couple times. Other guys have used sawdust and compressed air in a similar method but kinda messy for inside.

I used to use the flashlight trick on the car sub boxes I used to build; works well. I've never built a THTLP so am not familiar with the driver mounting and how difficult it may or may not be to get out if needed. Guess I just assumed the mounting scheme was like a Tuba or Titan with a small access door.
