Hi from Texas

#1 Post by skuzz »

Hello, all.

I'm new to speaker and live sound theory, though I've been a musician my entire life. Thanks to my months of lurking on this forum, I've come to realize that those two things are about as similar as cooking and farming, to paraphrase the late, great Mitch Hedberg.

I stumbled across BFM designs through the forum at PE while trying to teach myself how to properly run a very ill conceived PA rig for my band. After realizing how bad my set up was (one 15" top and one 18" sub per side, typically separated by about 15' ), I decided that I would jump into the hobby of speaker building. I bought the CD and some new power tools and currently have Jacks, Wedgehorns and SLAs in progress.

I hope to learn and lean more on the expertise here and to keep my stupid questions to a minimum. This seems like a tight knit supportive community that is willing to help those willing to learn and I fully intend to take advantage of that 8)

tl;dr-I'm new and a recovering member of the unwashed masses.
BFM Builds:

2 x SLA Pro
2 x Jack 12
2x T24
4 x WH6

Hello, and yeah, it's great here! So much knowledge I am slowly filling my brain to capacity. Members are always happy to help and knowing your speakers inside and out is oh so handy... I now even take a soldering iron and other quick fix bits to my free parties, so if something goes wrong, I can fix it in the field (literally!). Next I'll be taking recone kits.. oh hang on... I won't be needing any of those ;)

Lubbock is "the giant side of Texas" according to local newscasters.

Everyone is excited to have Kliff back. His first year starting for Leach was my first year at Tech, so I have a soft spot for him. I am looking forward to seeing what he can do.

I hope he does well. I watched him his senior year here in high school play the absolute most exciting football game I've ever seen - even college or pro.

Double overtime win in bi-district. The kid played like a pro quarterback - poised, always seemed to know when someone was getting close - good decisions all the way around. And from what little interaction I had with him, a good kid too.
