Greetings from the Northwest

#1 Post by Howie Dewitt »

Hello from the doug fir state in the rainy northwest usa.

Stumbled here looking for diy speaker plans. :hyper:

Looks like I found the right place.. I have had a few amazing audio experiences in my life and have wanted my own system ever since.
Im pretty crafty, have a bit of experience in finish carpentry, and light residential electrical.
I want face melting bass,

I have a few friends who are in bands and dj and they are really excited to see what some tuba 60's can do. I also know a promoter who is looking for sound systems a few times a month so there is a possibility that this could become a profitable hobby.
TBH I dont know much about sound systems, any good reads that you recommend post them up or pm me. My friends can show me the ropes IRL, but I like to read up also.

Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the forum Howie,
If you say the fir state i assume you are talking about Oregon. I visit the Portland area regularly for work and i must ask you, does it ever NOT rain over there?

You and your friends won't be disappointed with the performance of the T60. And if there is a chance to rent them out even better. In that case i would suggest getting tops that match the subs performance, some DR250 if your woodworking is up to it. As for making it a profitable hobby...
There is an old saying: "If you want to make a small fortune in the sound bussiness, start with a big one!" :broke:

Have fun building, don't forget to show us some build pictures.

Check out "Dancetronauts" on YouTube.com

They are using DR280s and T60s on a mobil platform for Burningman and other festivals. Epic sound and they ended up using far less than they predicted. Pity they weren't decent enough to give Bill credit for the designs.

Yes I do live in the cream of the west coast oreo. OREOGON :)

I am in the Willamette Valley most of the time.

I have seen the dancetronauts at BRC.

Their system bumped without a doubt, but they were playing house that was a bit boring for me at the time so I didnt get close enough to give them a real listening. I do remember seeing other t60's at brc that were very impressive.

I can't wait to get enough cash to order the complete set of plans. I suppose I should pay my taxes first.....

Does anyone here use any of the bfm speakers for studio mixing or home production?

There are a few who use Davids for the home studio. But i would advise you to get a pair of studio monitors for this purpose though.
