Hello all,

I've been into music and HT for over 30 yrs. I've gone from a simple 2 channel Jensen back in the mid 80, to current full surround Emotiva/Adcom system. The reason I'm here is that I've recently moved into a rental. Mr. Landlord won't let me cut holes for my IB. hehe It appears the horn designs on here are the next best thing for SQ, and of course SPL. I have several drivers to choose from that are sitting around collecting dust.

I have the original Tempest. I saw the Tuba HT is a great setup for that. I think one that is 30" wide could fit my needs. I think it would love to come out of retirement. I really like all my Adire kits Dan Wiggins designed and use his kits for my system in my main system.

BUT WAIT!! I have other choices!! I have 2 15" Avalanches I had in my IB with an Adcom GFA-555 pushing them. (850 watts RMS in bridged mode) I loved that setup.

Here are the specs on the Avalanches. I was wondering if they could be used. Then I could use both and destroy the house from the inside out. They are a XBL^2 design.

And last but not least, for my sunroom system. I think I want to do a horn with my Dayton 10" Classic sub. I'm thinking the Tuba 18 unless there is a better, larger version that will really hit the bottom end for this driver.

I know this is probably too much to talk about on the intro page, but this is a warning to y'all of the trouble I'm about to cause in my new neighborhood. We'll see how quickly the cops show up. Wouldn't be the first time. I'll toss these out on the other pages if need be.

Hi Michael and welcome to the forum

Not being into HT myself, I'm sure others will chime in about driver suitability.

Generally though, many of the subs, especially the smaller types, use smaller drivers...

Here are the specs on the Avalanches.

It's within specs for a THT.

How big is your room???? The reason I'm asking is because I don't think you have to 30" wide for awesome sub-bass. Three cabs at 20" spread out will help sort out modes.

Your Dayton Classic will fit in the TableTuba. 30hz.

Good news on the Avalanches! I'll probably roll with those.

I'll measure the room out tomorrow and let you know. The reason I picked the 30" wide is because the 24" has a small (maybe not real noticeable dip), and because I can fit a 30" between the wall and fireplace. If I have some peaks to flatten out, I have a Behringer Feedback Destroyer that I've used before with really good results.

Adire: I have 281 mains (ported and tuned to 40 Hz), the LCC, and 81s (sealed) for the rear. Dan Wiggins also designed 851s system (currently not being used) for me when I had another system in my basement.

I'm very much considering getting the CD so I can see all the plans and decide which ones will suit my needs best. Or just to mess around with other cabs!!

The room is 12X24X8, 2308 cu ft. It's going to be interesting to see what the peaks and nulls are at listening position.

The horn length determines the extension. Nearly identical for AT, TAT and T18 as far as I know. Neither goes much lower than the other.

The original AT was designed to fit in the trunk of most cars. The TAT is a refolded AT, to fit in different locations. So while the shape is different, the horn geometry and length are mostly the same.
