Textured rollers?

#1 Post by Fenderfan »

I made the mistake of not ordering the recommended roller sleeves when I got my Duratex, so went down to Bunnings to have look for something suitable. I got what I thought was right, but may have been wrong... Any one in NZ got some recommendations of where to go or what to get? Any help appreciated, trying to find a local solution rather than ordering some sleeves - yes I can get impatient waiting for postage, especially at this stage of the build!
Thanks, Tim.

Loop rollers. They're used for drywall texturing. Closest thing I've found to the open cell sponge rollers. Acrytec isn't having their rollers custom made, but they sure as hell aren't available anywhere else.

Find a paint store that has a big faux finish department, you'll find something that will work.

The smaller 100mm wide ones that Leland supplies are the best and you can't get them here.

The closest I ever got was by visiting some of the specialist paint stores until I found what I was looking for. They are a blue coloured with large open-cell foam and will cost you around $NZ 30.00 each. And they weren't as good as Leland's.

Resene Colour Shop in Manukau city had them last time I was there, so too did Guthrie Bowen Jellicoe Road, Panmure.

Be prepared to spend some time driving around or better still, wait until Leland's ones arrive.

I tried the loop rollers - not impressed at all with the finish.

Okay thanks, I'll do some searching! I had a second go at applying with what I had, and had better results.... Technique may have been a big part of it, but I'll keep trying :fingers:

Me too. I found a regular paint roller works great.

Fenderfan,
This is the same as what I used.
I googled it in NZ and got:
http://www.millin.co.nz/oldfields-pro-s ... oldfields/

I think you've seen my cabs build pics...

If you don't think that's enough texture, they also come in medium and coarse grade, same site...
Built:
DR 250: x 2 melded array, 2x CD horn, March 2012 plans.
T39's: 4 x 20" KL3010LF , 2 x 28" 3012LF.
WH8: x 6 with melded array wired series/parallel.
Bunter's Audio and Lighting "like"s would be most appreciated...

That's awesome, thanks Grant. Now I've got to think where I've seen the 'Oldfield' brand in stores...... Very familiar.
Cheers, Tim.

I tried those too - not as good as open foam cell.
