Decent 1/2 plywood SOS for THTLP build.

Helpful hints on how to build 'em, and where to get the stuff you need.

Check around - Baltic birch can be had in 4 X 8 sheets. I checked with our Pacific northwest lumber supplier and they had them in 1/2" 4 X 8 sheets. Going to get some myself soon.

Do you know where Baltic Birch comes from? I'm going to see if I can pull the same trick again but with BB.

It comes from lumber suppliers...not big box stores. Go to the Yellow pages and call up some cabinet builders. Ask 'em where they buy their BB, and if they'd be willing to sell you some. Then you can either go to the supplier or buy some from them.

That's exactly how I found my supplier. I probably never would have found 'em through normal channels as they sell to businesses, not typically the public - but they will if you can find 'em.

Actually, I meant who manufacturers it / distributes it. I was going to work my way from top to bottom, rather than from bottom to top asking who have you supplied...

But anyhoooo... I just made like 25 phone calls to places in ever increasing circles from my location. I found a place 50 miles away who says they have 1/2 inch Batlic Birch in 4x8 sheets. I'm taking the rest of the morning off to go check it out.

I'll report back later.

So here is a picture of the Arauco I had... over night it warped even more even though it was laid flat on the floor. Thankfully Lowes were happy to take it back no questions asked.

And here is a picture of 42 sheets of 1/2 inch 4x8 Baltic Birch!

It is really nice stuff and lays completely flat. They told me on the phone I would be paying $81 per sheet, which I was prepared to do... but when I got there I got it for $48 per sheet so $206.88 for 4 sheets including tax.

Peterman Lumber is in Fontana, CA. Their number is (909)-357-7739.

The customer service here was second to none. Massive facility spanning multiple buildings. I was like a kid in a toy shop. They let me cherry pick the best pieces no problem. I quite literally got wood today

I have bought from Peterman Lumber in Las Vegas and am happy with their products. It is easy to tell how exciter you are about good quality lumber - You actually counted how many sheets of Baltic Birch they had! :loler:
2 THTs, 2 TLAH, SLA curved, 1 8-AT, 1 AT JBL 1002D, 4 Otop12s, Jack 12, TT with Eminence 10", 2 SLAs, 1 T30 slim, 2 T30s (2-10" each), SLA Pros, TrT.

Preparing for my first build, a pair of T39s.

Many thanks to Mr. Hertz for the tips on ordering 15/32 AC Arauco from Lowes.

Located the "Pro Desk" at my local Lowes in Lynchburg, VA (unmarked closet of a room in the back of the store) (at least I didn't need a password to get in).

They were hesitant to help at first as it is now a "non-stock item" and "not available in our district".

Once I told them that Blue Linx was the distributor and gave them a barcode off an old scrap I happened to have saved in my shop, they got to digging. Sure enough, they can order it and it will be here next week. Blue Linx delivers to them weekly.

The price has gone up to $40.38 a sheet, but that is still a 20% discount off BB (plus a 3 hour round trip, plus special ordering, plus minimum purchase, etc.)

FYI - The Lowes info is: Item No: 170770, Model: LBR-170770

We will see what the quality is like.

I'd open the package before you leave the store to check it out. Especially as you have a long round trip.

The bottom sheet of mine had been dinged and gouged by forklift and the others were warped as per the photo's.

I look forward to hearing how you do. Good luck!
