Should I use this foam in my OTops?

Helpful hints on how to build 'em, and where to get the stuff you need.

Should I use this foam in my OTops?

#1 Post by miked »

I'm building some OTop12s and have a question about the foam stuffing/lining.
I have a couple of sheets of the foam shown below that should be enough for all 4.

The foam is VERY dense and doesn't compress much at all. I believe it's the stuff you put on your walls to deaden reflections. The stuff is so dense that I worry it will act more as a "spacer" in the cab vs. absorbing reflections. Should I use it, or buy some matress topper?

The mattress topper is the cheap and readily available option. This however is designed for exactly the purpose you are going to use it for. So yes, use it. :D

Cool. I was just concerned due to the density of this stuff. This means one less thing to buy! And it's already a much better color than white or Easter-Egg Yellow, like most matress toppers are. Though I'm not sure how great charcoal-gray would look against a black Duratex finish. I could always spray a little flat black on the surfaces you can see through the ports, I guess. Thanks.

Exactly what I did. Sprayed it right through the port holes. That way, there was no guessing......it shot where you can see.
