adding reverb & effects

Hello all,
I have a behringer 1002B mixer. I use it to do a little karaoke and I was wanting to add some effects like reverb. What options do I have? Or do I need to replace it with one that has effects built in.

You can simply use the FX sends to send to an external FX unit. You'll need to get the effect (set to wet, so its only the effect and not the original signal) back into the mixer. The 1002B doesn't appear to have returns, so you'll have to use one of the channels.

One advantage of using a channel for the FX return is that you can roll off some bass/trebble from the FX, which often makes reverbs sound cleaner and better. Don't turn up the FX send on the FX return channel - you'll create a feedback loop - only do this with extreme caution if trying to intentionally create a feedback delay effect.

If you're already using all the channels, you're probably better off just getting a bigger mixer with built in FX. Typically external FX units sound better / have more controls & FX types. Internal FX are simpler and easier to use, and don't take up any of your other channels, but use a simple "return" rather than a channel, so you can't eq the effect.

you also have an insert on each channel. you can use that to send and recieve from fx.

Ok cool any recommendations in external units? I am mainly trying to help me and my friends sound better while we attempt sing. Yes I know alcohol is the best solution for sounding better, but there are a few that don't drink. LOL so for their sake I'm trying to help. Thank you for the explination I do have an extra channel I can use.

A used Alesis nanoverb or quadraverb would be cheap.

A very cheap unit that does a decent job is the behringer FEX800. My girlfriend uses it with a behringer mixer 802 for her online karaoke. Very good to give more life to a vocal. about 70$ new.

I didn't notice if your mixer has inserts. Typically you'd use inserts for things like compessors & gates, that will be effecting the full signal in that channel all the time.

If you do use it for adding FX, you'll be using the Wet/Dry knob on the FX unit to adjust the amount of FX relative to the original signal. Dry is only the original signal, wet is only the effect with no original signal. Start towards Dry and add 'just' enough effect - too much tends to sound tacky and muddy.

Make sure you get the right lead for using inserts. Should be labeled 'Send' (into FX unit) and 'Return' (out of FX unit) at the end with two plugs.

Hey guys I found a Visualizer Pro for $75 bucks. Do you think this is over kill? I like that it has XLR connectors and 1/4". If I can pick it up for less do you think its a good deal?

Post more info about it, including the full, correct name with manufacturer brand. Google shows it to be software.

I finally found it - it's a Behringer. It should take care of what he wants.
