Why do schools block forum usage?

You can't get away with that any more. Teachers actually take role, and besides, too many security cameras.

I think its a typo... i guess what he tries to say is that the teachers have to roll for them. Kids these days...

Still, no visiting forums at school. Study hard so you can get a good job where you get paid while posting on forums. Can't do that on the job while you are mopping the bathroom floor at mc Donalds.

I meant to say that teachers take role/roll call/attendance. They write down who's in class and who's not, and the ones who are not should have an excused absence are in big trouble.

Forums are a great place, positive ones are anyway.

Food for thought; perhaps if I spent more time applying myself during my school years and not surfing, chasing girls, slacking off AND HAVING THE TIME OF MY LIFE . . . .

I may have scored a different career, where I wouldn't have to work so bloody hard all the time and perhaps even be able to have the occasional procrastination during work hours and surf the net

Life's not a rehersal, I learnt that the hard way. Young fella's; do your best to ensure that every decision or choice you make today will assist in getting you where you want to be tomorrow and the next day and the day after that and ten years down the track.

Sorry to say,
The reason for things like forums etc to be blocked in schools is due to:
1. Those that went before you abused their "privelege" and ruined it for everyone. In which case blame those that went before you lol, especially the ones that hacked anything.
2. The educators thought it would be safer and protect students from potential harm. Blame the educators. I would have thought a student bringing in a gun would be potentially way more harmful than the internet...

Eventually stripped of core vocational training and a relatively hostile environment for thought-provoking discussion, school as it became in my childhood, was just an quirky form of day-care.

I couldn't agree more -I've learnt far more through self education than I ever did at school. The give away is in the name "school" as in "a school of fish" which all move in the same direction at the same time. Its more about indoctrinating the masses to accept the "norm" and not think too far outside the box. Learn with a hunger, but don't expect your teachers to be particularly objective, or even that well informed. Question your sources, and their motives.

And that's one reason my children are homeschooled. There is no box. They finish in two hours (on their own no less) what the average child does in a day at school and then move on to their interests. I'm amazed at how much they've learned- way beyond what I learned in school.

I can see where you're coming from with the "stick to your studies" motion. but, what if sound engineering/ contracting is my desired career? I personally don't see a benefit for me continuing my education past high school, as I feel I could invest the 40,000 dollars spent on college on more capital in my already profitable business. Right now, being a DJ is not generating enough income to sustain on, but being 16, I have time to grow my business into something larger. I don't plan to stay DJing, but become more of a sound engineer for large acts running my own (BFM ) system. Please this is not meant as an attack, but as an explanation of my desired career path. I want to make sure that your advice applies to my interests
