The only practical thing to be aware of is that it makes sense to mount 4 pole speakon sockets in your cabs, since they accept both 2 pole and 4 pole plugs. Not the other way around. All cables can be applied to all cabs and all amps, pick the length that works best for the situation at hand. And yet another reason to stay away from bridging amps: no weird wiring or adapters needed on the amp end.

Personally I'm not a fan of any kind of crimp connectors, and a good solder joint should provide the most reliable lowest resistance connection.


We use 4 pole speakons for everything, and just mark the plugs with a '2' or a '4' to indicate whether 2 or 4 core cable has been used.
