2 T48's outdoors.

#1 Post by Turntablist »

Hi!
Finally I've got my two T48's up and running, everything is done exept for painting.
I set them up against a 7' wall outdoors(don't know how much this will affect the bottom end), hooked them up to one channel of my dads old Onkyo amp, put my most vicious basstune that I've got in the CD and initiated the listening. (Only like 100-150 watts going to the speakers and no crossing at all, I was VERY eager to listen to them and figured the power wasn't enough to blow my 3015LF's.)
My first impression was that they didn't sound all that loud up close, though my eardrums seemed to start bleeding soon, my second impression was that they were pounding my chest like crazy. :D
I thought "Hmm, what I'm hearing is nothing but clear bass, no distorsion..", I started to walk away from the T48's to find out how far away I can hear them, at like 20 or 30 yards the bass was still noticably pounding my chest and my eardrums were still getting quite a beating. The sound was almost as loud as it was up close.
I walked another 20 yards only to find that the chestpounding almost was gone, my eardrums seemed to finally be co-oping with the pressure and the soundlevel was a bit down from earlier(go figure..).
I gave up walking, told my father to press the playbutton after like 2 minutes and started to cycle away from the T48's. I live in the middle of the woods with no neighbors closer than 600yards away so in the direction of where I was cycling there was 600 yards of forest, then another 600 of open meadow, another 100 of forest and then meadows all the way.
I got half a mile when my father pressed the playbutton and it was clearly noticable WHEN he pushed it :D, so i cycled another halfmile, and this day there was quite a hard wind blowing, though I could still hear them.
I thought "What the hell?!" and cycled another halfmile and I could STILL hear them!! After that the sound quickly got more quiet, when I got home I found out that my dad actually turned the reciver down..

So, to conclude this testing I've found out that if the T48's don't sound loud, trust your bleeding eardrums and by cycling all that distance I've found out that the bass actually can be heard at silly distances.. And I thought that I would do the testing without disturbing my neighbors.. Yeah right.. I was told later that the owner of a farm on the other side of the forest(~600 yards away) walked out to his employee in one of the near barns and asked him how the hell he could play music THAT LOUD.....
And this was with only A MAXUMUM of 150watts going to the T48's and WALL-loaded.... I can only imagine what 2 cornerloaded T48's with proper crossing and protection would do when hooked up to to my Powersoft amp.. 8)

Insane feat for 2 15'' drivers.
Up next are 2 DR250's with CPC-piezos and Deltalites in them.
