Proud new BFM speaker owner

#1 Post by beemer832 »

Hello all!

I just purchased 4 DR250's and 4 Titan 39 cabs from Leland Crooks from Speakerhardware.com. After setting these up and running them in a very small barn yesterday to demo them, I am still in awe. The sound is just amazing and the tightness of the bass those cabinets produce and out of a 12" sub is just unreal.

I will be around these boards frequently as I learn more about the speakers, their capabilities, and I am sure some troubleshooting along the way.

Thanks
-Josh

That's the exact same rig that I run for DJ'ing so I know where you are coming from. Just wait to you have it all setup and have 300 bodies or more dancing to your tune. I have got complements at every gig since building and using my BFM rig and could not be happier. If you have any questions don't hesitate to ask that's what we are all here for is to help one another.
Built
4-25" Lab12 loaded T39's
2-DR250's Melded array
2-DR250's Flat array

That is great news. I am very happy to hear that someone else is running something similar while DJing. The music produced from these speakers should compliment even the most boring of light shows. Now I just need to get a few high school gigs booked and get my foot in the door.

I am going to set these up in my garage later today and look at the different options of placing them, etc.

The garage may not bring out the best of your subs, just saying.

Thanks Josh. Your extra stuff is going out today. I'll get those other DR's wrung out and get them to you.

It's not the prettiest work I've ever done. Josh bought my system. I don't pay nearly as much attention to detail with my own stuff as I do with client builds. But it works good.

One thing I did not mention. When you go to 4 dr's, you will probably need to bring them down a bit with your driverack. They'll leave 4 t39's behind. Worth it.

Oh yeah. Can somebody explain to him the limiter on the driverack? I'd never run one, so I hacked my way through the menus to setup xovers and eq's. I did set the limiters based on some guesses, but I didn't quite understand what the options were it was offering me. He's running crown CE2000's, 2 cabs per channel. All the cabs should take all those amps will provide, but limiters are still a good idea.
If it's too loud, you're even older than me! Like me.

Maybe I need some T48's with 15" drivers then to help support the T39's :)

I am a convert.... Expect lots of talk and hype from me, and will be getting interested buyers coming your way!!

thanks again

Ohhhh Josh,
you're gonna learn a bit today lol...

So before biggerrigger gets in your ear:
You can't mix T48's and T39's together :cop:

well damn. I guess I do have a lot to learn. I am just so incredibly impressed by these subs, I can't imagine bigger and louder.

I am an IT nerd so I love learning how, what, and why things work so bring on the information overload. I haven't even messed with the driverack yet. Leland was the first one to turn it on even.

Thanks again for the help everyone. This truly is a great forum.

Your ce2000 are a bit overkill for DR250 but not to worry, they will tear your head off with 200W into a pair.

You can get a little bit more out of the T39 with a more powerful amp. Limiting is mandatory in case an unexpectedly strong peak signal hits the amp.

Highpassing for the T39 is 45hz or 40hz if you run 4 of them in a single stack. If you get it wrong the lowest notes can wreck your drivers. They stop making sound all of a sudden with no warning.
BAT10, Bad Auto Tuba. Reverse folded TAT to fit JBL 1014D, 350W driver, voltage limit unknown.

Biggerrigger and I spent a good 2.5-3 hours on the phone today getting my DBX PA+ dialed in and BOY does it sound good. We did a volt test to make sure the amp wasn't pushing enough voltage to the drivers and at 3/4 throttle up the fader (main and channel gain turned down some) I could barely stand sitting infront of the speakers and it was only 24 volts!!!!!

I am going to set them up and wall load them tomorrow night for a party, again in a garage, but at least it's bigger then what I am using now. Doesn't look like I'll be outside with these anytime soon, its about 25 degrees and snowing here.

Thanks again for all the help, and I'll be sure to get a post up for PA+ help in the EQ forum.
