Crown XLS/Peavey IPR users
Crown XLS/Peavey IPR users
Is there anyone here using the built-in DSP on the Crown XLS or Peavey IPR amps for BFM subs? If so, how do you apply both a LPF and a HPF to the sub at the same time?
I use a Roland M-400 V-Mixer, utilizing REAC technology.
Re: Crown XLS/Peavey IPR users
As I recall, you cant run a HPF and a LPF on a channel at the same. You need to step up to the Crown XTI for that. It has been awhile since I looked into them, BUt that is what I remember. Look up the manuals and see what they say.

Re: Crown XLS/Peavey IPR users
The Peavey IPR will do both high pass and low pass on each channel at the same time. I have an IPR 1600 used to run 2 T39s in this configuration. You can set the exact frequencies you want too, which is very nice.
The DDT (clip limiting) on the amplifier provides my limiting as well, as the max voltage for the speakers are higher than the maximum provided by the amplifier once it hits the DDT.
Its a great all-in-one solution for those on a tight budget, if you plan right for voltage and impedance.

Re: Peavey IPR
It looks like you can get a psuedo limiting going on by locking down the DSP attenuators on the IPR. The DDT compression is going to get in the way of setting a limit though. So you would be relying on the DDT to catch peaks.

Re: Crown XLS/Peavey IPR users
if your refer to the Crown XLS drive core amps ( class d )
i have one the XLS 2000
they gave basic DSP, high pas, low pass on both channels
or full range
bridge mode
and xover mode
where you set the crossing freq... for example if you set 80hz
the output to the subs will be on ch1, and the tops will be on ch2
all below from 80 and below go to ch1 and all from 80 and above goes to ch2
butttttt
missing thing from them is the subsonic filter
i dont know if the peavey IPV have that
but i think crowns XTI got all the dsp you need and the behringers inukes DSP
peronally i will need to get a Behringer DCX or a DBX drive rack if i want al the filters plus the limiters
the XLS have a limiter circuit but only for at max power
i mean that if you put the amp in to clipping the circuit engages
but that doesnt mean that you are exceding the max voltage for your drivers
anyway hope this helps

Re: Crown XLS/Peavey IPR users
The XLS drivecores do not have the DSP necessary to do what you need without a driverack or 2496.
As stated above, you cannot high pass and low pass on the same channel. The limiter is not adequate for your subs. The crossover is fine, but that's not a big deal.
I have a bunch of these amps and like 'em a lot - for their power, weight, price, and warranty. I much prefer to use a speaker management system like the dbx drive rack for everything else. Much easier to access on the fly and more functionality. Take the money you save by buying XLS instead of xti and buy a driverack.

The Driverack is what I would rather have, I'm just looking at all of my options.

Re: Crown XLS/Peavey IPR users
I have a Peavey IPR 1600 DSP. The HP and LP filters are great but it is true that is does not have an adjustable limiter. As others have mentioned, it does have DDT which is a limiter that keeps that amp from clipping. In a class D amp like this, it also acts as a brick wall limiter at the factory set point. I measure mine engaging around 55V. So if you are running a sub that can handle this voltage or more, it is a nice solution.
Have you considered the Crest Pro LITE 2.0 DSP? It is very similar to the Peavey IRP (both designed by Crest/Peavey) but has a few more watts, is officially bridgeable and most important, it has a fully adjustable limiter. All for about the same street price as a XLS1500. I haven't used one, but at least on paper, it seems like a great bargain.

Re: Crown XLS/Peavey IPR users
I've been trying to get my hands on a Crest pro-lite 3.0 for months. They're rarer than hen's teeth. The DSP seems solid though, and includes pre and post DSP passthrough.
