Best advice I got from a car guy with loads of cars: Buy the car you want, you save money in the long run.

I loved going off-road with the All-wheel. I got rammed by an SUV, and bought a newer one, and it's too nice to take off road. For non-Subaru enthusiasts, the ONLY fast Subaru is the WRX, the rest are fun because weather cannot stop them! When I bought the first, there was a huge blizzard, cars were doing 20 MPH on the highway and filling up the ditches, but my car felt nothing amiss. It was amazing (until that GM SUV lost control in the snow and came over the line.)

The exhaust dumps right before the rear axle, which is about right behind the rear seats.

Which would work for a pickup truck, but the passenger compartment goes right to the tail lights.
Anyway, I think you'll enjoy your ride once you get licensed!

Yikes! But the car did what it was designed to do, protected its occupants.

The FXT is pretty fast too as it's basically a tall Impreza WRX. Same engine and chassis, essentially. 0-60 in 5.3 seconds. There was a JDM STi version of the Forester and that thing is potent. Has the STi 6MT, STi go-fast parts and STi suspension, and looks great in WRB paint and the classic gold BBS wheels. The STi Forester isn't anywhere near as practical as the regular Forester, but it sure is fun!

Only bad thing about the Forester is the auto 4EAT tranny (only 4 gears + torque converter lock )

It's remembering the fallen rally driver Matt Marker. They're trying to beat Subaru of America's record of 330-something people.

Impossible. That would be more than the full new car sales total of all Subaru dealers in North America for the last twenty years or so.

On September 16, 2012, family, friends, neighbors, rally enthusiast and Subaru fans, will assemble in honor of rally car driver, Matthew Noble Marker, in Elk Rapids, Michigan, in an attempt to break the current Guinness World Record, for the longest parade of Subarus!

The current record, held by Subaru of America, Inc., involved 339 cars in partnership with the Village of Itasca, in Itasca, Illinois, on July 11, 2009.

Well my family is good for 5 or them at least. Mom, brother, two step-brothers and I. They are amazing in the snow, and in Traverse City, there is snow.


Edit: and of those 330 cars sold in the last twenty years, 329 are still on the road (all but my wreck.)

I spent 22 years selling computer systems to new car dealers. While there was a Subaru dealer in San Antonio, I never actually walked into one until I started selling in the Denver area....and only then because it was part of a group that included the largest Chevy and Toyota dealers in the region.

I was shocked that they sold 200 Subarus a month. The little store in San Antonio probably sold more used cars in a month than they sold new Subarus in a year.

They are obviously a great car in the snow....probably why we don't really see many down here. When we do see 'em - they have plates from up north and are hauling copious amounts of snowbirds (Goingsouthus Grayhairedimus)to nest in the warm weather during the winter.

We don't get many Subarus down here either. The only Forester drivers that I see on the roads of Memphis are either old ladies or tree huggers.
