Plywood - Tampa FL

#1 Post by cipher »

I cannot find plywood at a decent price. Lowe's in my area does not carry Arauco. I did find Baltic Birch, but they want $93 for a 4x8 sheet.

Is there anyone in the Tampa area that knows where to get plywood at a decent price?

Thank you!

They will not have 1/2" until late August, but they have 5/8" in stock. Can I use 5/8" Arauco plywood?

Keep looking. Figuring out the adjustments for the thicker ply could take you until late August. And you don't want the extra weight.

Yea, well I have called a bunch of these and they don't have it. Everyone is out. If they do have something that will work it's $90 - $120 per sheet. They said prices are going way up because of civil war in countries where the wood is imported from, causing the price to go way up.

I think I'm going to order 1/2" from the place that has 5/8" and just wait until August.

OUch!

I just scored a heck of a deal from a local lumberyard that had some 1/2" baltic birch sitting out back in an old shed for a few years (prolly more than a few) that they sold me for $34/sheet for 4'x8' sheets! Still in perfect shape.

I took every sheet they had (11).

There's a civil war in Finland? Oh right, Baltic Birch comes from Syria.

Just for grins I called my supplier in San Antonio to see what the prices are now on Baltic Birch. All the talk on this thread made me think that it has gone way up....

Here it is:

5x5 - $26.70
4x8 - $46.58

Pretty much the same price I've paid for the last two years.

Methinks it time to start looking for a better source for your plywood. Bypass the big box stores and the lumberyards.....look for a supplier who sells mostly wholesale to the lumberyards. They are out there, it just takes a little looking.

In case anyone is in the central Texas area, I use Roddis Lumber in San Antonio.

I finally found a source that carries both plywood types at a great price. It's a far drive, but worth it.

Sorry to dig up an old thread, but I'm about to begin my first build on a pair of XF212s. I was at Menard's tonight and found some 1/2" AraucoPly. Will this be good enough to get the job done, or do I need to spend a little more cash?

That'll do, if it's 5 ply.
