table saw sled miter slot runner tips

I have a bunch I've gathered from various other sites:

1) Make sure you get a TS with 2 miter slots. With one slot runner, you must build a runner to the exact width of the slot, which is much more work.

2) Use this stuff for the runners. Enough material for all the jigs you ever want to make, much more stable than wood.

3) Cut the slot runners so they are a hair short of the bottom of the slot.

4) After cutting the slot runners, shim them so they are against the face of the slot nearest the blade, and exactly flush with the top of the table before you lay the jig base on top of them. Don't jam them in there, they need to be just touching.

5) clamp the base of the jig to the saw table in at least 2 places before attaching them to the base of the saw with 3 or 4 2" brads left so they're sticking out out about 1".

6) use 1" long counter sunk screws every 4" to 6" to attach the runners to the sled. Leland's cabinet screws would work a treat, I've been waiting months for them to get back in stock.

Whoops, I'll fix that. The 1" are pretty slow movers, I keep forgetting about them.
