Church Speaker build

#1 Post by barrajoe »

Finally got the go ahead from the church and started with the mains. A pair of TLAHs using the specified speakers with the alternate melded tweeter array. Got all the components ordered from Leland and started making sawdust.
The pics should be self explanitory but feel free to post any questions.
By the way, does anyone have any + or - feeling about recessing the tweeters and alphas into the 3/4 thick baffle or is it just a waste of router time.

3/4" will be fine for all those 8's.

Recessing will give some experience, if nothing else! It's up to you.

The effect will be slight, barely measurable.

'nuf said, not gonna route the recesses. As the Three Stooges said," we don't need to practice, we're professionals". Besides, there are plenty of other things I can screw up in the course of the normal build, why ask for trouble, the baffles are good so far.

Speaker build continues. TLAH Pro baffles ready for paint, tweeters cut and ready for glue, and 4 sets of SLA baffles cut drilled and chamfered ready for paint and drivers.
Sure wish my shop was bigger!!! With all of this in it I have to go outside to turn around. I still have 2 T39s and 2 wedgehorns to build. Hope I don't run out of time before the Sanctuary reno is finished.

Are you putting the tweeter array inside the cab? I mean, behind the baffle?

I assume you are talking about the TLAHs.

No, I was looking, probably, at the SLA baffles.

And, no, the tweeter array goes on the front side of the baffle for the TLAH.

Tom, I am using the bulk tweeters from the PE buyout from a couple of years ago in the SLAs.I have built a couple of tlahs and curved sla center with them before. Only work from the rear and look cool too with the chamfer.
