My new THT

#1 Post by Golden86 »

I have been lurking these boards for a while now getting all the ins and outs of building a THT. I finally got the nerve to build one. Im not going to show the build process because it has been documented countless times, but I will show you the final product. I chose to build the 30" wide version because its the largest thing I could get through my door. I thought of many ways to finish it, do I use Durex, laminate, paint, stain, and so on. I used to own a set of Def Tech speakers, and I always liked the wrap around grill on them, so I decided to mimic that. I also wanted it to match my Klipsch speakers so I ordered some black ash vinyl from parts express to cover the top and bottom cover panels.

The sub is placed in the rear corner of my theater, and seems to be the best spot for it. I am currently running it off a 110w plate amp, but will get a larger amp in the future.

Here it is, enjoy.

It sounds great!

I am actually using the amp that normally powers my bass shakers. I no longer need them because this sub shakes the crap out of my seating. That's pretty hard to do when you are sitting on a concrete slab and have a concrete foundation surrounding you.

I mainly built this for HT use, but I will also use it for music, too. Even though my Klipsch towers produce more than enough bass for normal music, this adds that solid kick to the drums.

Thanks for the comments.

This was my first time building something like this for my home. I have a lot of experience in fabrication for car audio, so it wasn't too hard to build. It did come out much better than I thought.

The sad thing is that I haven't been able to listen to it much lately, just busy with other things.
