Refurbishment Slash Maintenance - Driver gasket?
Refurbishment Slash Maintenance - Driver gasket?
I'm about to get into my busy season, so I decided to do some touch up work on my cabs. The plan is:
1. Take off all corners and replace with new ones as necessary (especially the ones on the Titans!)
2. Fill holes/large cracks with bondo, reapply single coat of Duratex on all cabs
3. Open up OT12, check all wiring and reattach any dampening filler
4. Replace all weatherstripping
I'll check all the bolts to make sure the driver is still mounted well... but is there any need/benefit for me to take the drivers out and check/replace the gasket?

Only if a leak check confirms an air leak. If it ain't broke, don't fix it!bzb wrote:I'll check all the bolts to make sure the driver is still mounted well... but is there any need/benefit for me to take the drivers out and check/replace the gasket?

I think I'll leave the Titans alone, then
I'm not even sure how to check for leaks with the OT12s.
Thanks!

Re: Refurbishment Slash Maintenance - Driver gasket?
30Hz wave @ 10VRMS, just like a sub. Use a piece of tubing to check around the driver gasket for leaks. Inside the back chamber, where it's ported, it won't get high enough pressure to leak around the back access panel, so just make sure it doesn't vibrate. Want to be anal? Lay the OTop 12 face down on carpet, so the whole front is blocked, then temporarily stuff the ports with foam, a rag, whatever will block them. Tub of mess????

Might you mean a tube of mess, e.g. PL Premium? Home Depot carries it in spades, and they are headquartered in Atlanta!

May I give an observation? It's contradicts what you said, even though I didn't think it should. I recently altered my Omni10.5s to look like an OT12 and then tested for leaks (30hz at 10v). I had a slight leak at a corner of the back access panel, even though the cab is ported.DJPhatman wrote:30Hz wave @ 10VRMS, just like a sub. So you CAN hear the leaks? Or did you use the tubing trick?Tom Smit wrote:May I give an observation? It's contradicts what you said, even though I didn't think it should.
