I'm not sure that it does go bad. I had an open gallon sit for a year, and it was as good as the day I opened it.....no film or skin.

I had a bucket of black from Leland that kept for well over a year after I opened it. No skin, but there were a few dried bits in it by the end. Easy to pick out once rolled on, though.
