A J10/Boominator bastard

#1 Post by Michael Ewald Hansen »

I was at Roskilde Festival last week and people there LOVE custom and funny mobile stereos.. So I thought I'd do something fun. In the week before Roskilde I built this little thing to bring with me.. Its a bastard between a jack10/omnitop/boominator loaded with beta10's..

I have 2 small tripath amplifier based on a great chip called TK2050 inside, DSP is done with a miniDSP and it all runs from 12v batteries.. Its a 75hz tuning and I run a 70hz highpass on it so even though its turned all the way up there's no distortion at all.. Easily breaks 118-120db.. Because of the bipolar design the baffle step diffraction is also minimalised and the bass actually sounds very present.. Its not EQ'ed to perfection, but people were generally very amazed by the sound quality and SPL - gotta thank Bill's designs for being such a great inspiration and its fun doing some serious DIY for myself :)

Daftley is my company name and the RF12 stands for: Roskilde Festival 2012..

Enjoy :)

maybe fit a t18 or at in the bottom? or is that where the amps go?
Before Fitzmaurice, big bass could only be had with just a hook and a nightcrawler.

Nah, makes no sense for whats its built for.. putting in an at or t18 would more than double its size for a very mediocre gain.. Definately not worth it for the extreme increase in power usage :)
