New Emotiva UPA-200

#1 Post by cerescobra »

Emotiva has just released this stereo amplifier rated at 200W per channel (both channels driven) into 4 ohms at 0.05% THD. Link here: http://shop.emotiva.com/collections/amp ... cts/upa200. Any reason this wouldn't be a decent choice to drive a pair of THTs? It's priced competitively with most of the pro amp alternatives and just slightly above a Bash 500 plate amp. I like the rack-mountability and the 5-year warranty and it would definitely look good with my other Emotiva gear in the rack.

I know it doesn't have low and high pass filters, but I believe I can use the crossover settings in my AV processor for that function. Any downsides I've missed?

Thanks,

Chuck

It doesn't have low and high pass filters. The filters in AV processors often are inadequate on their own.

Thanks Bill. Looks like I need a high end pre-pro with independent crossover setting ability for both subs to make this strategy work. I'll be awhile getting the theater together and will have some time for more research on amp options for the THTs.
