They are being sold by DJBAMM, who is a member on this forum. He was warned to check for air leaks, that all the cabs are in phase and to limit the 3015LFs to 50-60VRMS, but I guess he didn't listen to the advice.

Probably not high passed as well. Not the smartest move with rental stuff that can be expected to be abused.bitSmasher wrote:Hah, reckon those drivers weren't limited properly?

I put the necessity for limiting and high passing in the plans. You can lead a horse to water, but...

Re: Titan 48x8 build
Ok, so I got the blown subs..and yep, they are toast!
thus let the re coning begin....sometime!
Next week the build should officially start, gonna go on a birch safari this weekend, wish me luck.
Let but not least: amps. So I have decided that Im getting rid of the old iron and going with something light. As mentioned prior I was considering the expansion of my Crown XLS series. Further consideration has be thinking that a fresh power amp start would be the way to go: its lighter and very affordable.
Amps at the top of my consideration list: QSC GX or Peavey IPR series. Ill be new this light weight class D business and I have a couple of concerns:
1. reliably/dependability: are these amps as hearty (or at least comparable) as the old school iron?
2. Do they really put out the power they claim? I dont wanna get "Behringer'ed" and buy a 1000 watt per channel amp and only actually get half the power! I have read in several other threads that typically behringer amps put out about half the stated power.
Frankly the GX series matches my power needs almost perfectly and the price sure is nice!!!
Thoughts?

Re: Titan 48x8 build
The gx series output what they claim. I can't speak for the ipr series.
Re: Titan 48x8 build
I have a gx3 and my band leader used a gx5 for our monitor mix. Never had a problem with them. I know some of the "lightweight" amps can have issues. (It's usually because the venue has sketchy wiring.) I'll let other chime in on which ones.
I prefer old iron for the subs, but I'd use the lightweights for any tops or monitors without question. My personal opinion, YMMV.

Once you go Jack, you never go back!

Do you think that having good quality line conditioners would help take care of skethcy wiring? That's a little bit concerning for me.Dantreige wrote:I have a gx3 and my band leader used a gx5 for our monitor mix. Never had a problem with them. Re: Titan 48x8 build
Transformers and linear power supplies tolerate bad power better. Other than that, Class D is the real deal. You might be more likely to get rated power from Class D than linear. But again, switching PSUs and whatnot are very dependent on good power. If you can assure that, there's no downside really.
Are you offloading the XLS? I don't know if I can justify the expense, but the kid in me wants to horde some more of them.

Re: Titan 48x8 build
Des Moines is Menard's country. If they don't have it in stock, they will special order. And the price is right (at least here in the Twin Cities, their price per square foot is the best around by far).chenry78 wrote:Next week the build should officially start, gonna go on a birch safari this weekend, wish me luck.
Re: Titan 48x8 build
Ok sorry no action lately. I have been playing the amp swap game and sold all my old stuff and bought new. Replaced my crowns and qsc's with two qsc gx7 for the subs, two gx5 for the top and ill run monitors with a gx3. Should lighten up my load and give considerably more power than before. Gotta finish one more travel case then the build is on! If not this wk than next week for sure
