transporting subs up the stairs SOLO!

#1 Post by DJ Higgumz »

alot of times im caught moving equipment up and down stairs, (i swear i'm trying to kill myself because my equipment storage is in my basement :conf: )and i found out a technique for lifting subs upstairs by yourself. what you want to do is bring your sub up to the bottom of the stairs, and make it so the smallest dimension is parallel with the stairs. (for reference, for my t39 i turn it sideways) and so then your longer dimensions will be touching the stairs. start rolling it up the stairs like your making a snowman, and if you did it correctly with the t39 you will only need 2 revolutions. it takes a bit longer than just dead lifting it, but saves your back and energy better used on your mix.

this works with t39, 48, 60, but i don't know about 30 or 24. they just may be light enough just to carry in your hands
Before Fitzmaurice, big bass could only be had with just a hook and a nightcrawler.

T30's are deceptively large...being 30" x 30". My 18" wides have the 3012lf and are probably about 50-60 lbs. The 26" wides are Lab 12 are probably pushing 90-100 lbs. At some point I may build some T24's so people won't look at me like I'm insane doing the load in for small jobs.

run 4 x T48s at a local venue here in raleigh twice a month (Kings Barcade). Its an upstairs loft type venue (about 35 steps). My girlfriend and I are growing to hate it haha, but we get all four up those stairs by ourselves. not too shabby when we weigh less than 225 total between the 2 of us hehe.

I played at an American Legion like that. I won't be back there again unless its big $$$. However, the room is gorgeous and the bass sings in there.

Whilst I understand the concept, and place a lot of value in smart moving, this has me stumped

Mind you, the only snow I ever see is when defrosting the freezer... but can you elaborate on this motion?

Rolling.

To make a snowman you roll a small cylinder about until it gets a bit bigger and then tidy it up and roll along picking up girth at a great rate, hence : things snowballed (out of control), happens naturally on hillsides.

The end near you is lifted up and rolled over, thus landing in front of the cab (clockwise fashion)(near to far).

I wouldn't dream of rolling my beloved T48's or T39's up stairs.I wash them,i touch up their paint as needed,i wrap them in moving blankets when i transport them.I carry my T39's up stairs,i wrap a piece of moving blanket around the top of my dolly to transport my T48's up stairs.

sounds like a case of mama bear :loler: . i store my equip in my basement, so i guess this pertains to carpeted stairs. concrete stairs i would hesitate, if anything, solo i would just cradle it and carry it up.

heaviness with the t39 is a mentality. your mind is fooling you by the dimensions and not the true weight. think of it as a lawnmower motor and lug it up :chainsaw:

I can't transport my dual TT solo up the stairs, if only by virtue of its dimensions. It's not that heavy compared to a T60 or T48, but it's a 30x30 cube. I can carry dual TT for a short distance by holding it by the ledge of the inside of the driver chamber and heaving the entire sub up to brace against my hip. To get it down single steps I hold the front up and bring the back casters to the edge of the step and gently lower the front end. I then go around and hold the back of the sub and push the sub forward, and then gently lower the back end and you're done.
