2x Otops + 2x T60 slims + Crown xTi4000

EQ guys are using on their cabs/systems. A good starting place if you don't have your own RTA.

I'm not sure if speakons are sealed, you'll have to look that up, although sine's advice indicates you should be ok to remove the 1/4" and epoxy, not duct tape ffs. Pressure inside there is huge. You need a stellar seal around the cover and around the jack plate.

Others will have a better idea of the chances you stuffed the driver. How much voltage did it get with a 1/4" leak? If it was full noise I don't like your odds. Probably worth inspecting.

Hahaha ... Well I was gonna stuff the 1/4" jacks with some kind of cloth or foam before slapping the duct tape on the ends. Thing is I like the option of the 1/4" jacks however its seeming like I may just have to bite the bullet and epoxy those fuckers closed.

As far as I could tell by hand testing and also putting my face up to the speakons there was no air coming out.

At this point i'm thinking of just getting another Lab12 to swap into the cab and using the older/loose and played out one for my HT project. Kill 2 birds with one stone I suppose ...

+1

Best thing you can do. Then make a small investment and go to speakon (Neutrik only, not the cheap crap) for all of your PA gear. You'll never want to see another 1/4" connector again....

Oh well ... Beginners lesson ... When cruising through options on Lelands site I figured : "Hey why not have the extra option , sometimes all thats on hand are 1/4" cables , you never know" = Time + Money wasted.

In the end it'll be cheaper than replacing drivers.

I have those same 2x speakon / 2x 1/4's on the back of my otop12's as well ... Now i'm wondering if I should just epoxy those shut too.

for duct tape solutions I'd say silly putty + tape.

Do not put putty in your jacks to seal them.

Speakons are only sealed if they use the spade connectors as opposed to the compression screw inserts (NL2 vs NL4-8 for example). If you don't have the jacks in a sealed chamber seal with a hotglue or silicone. 1/4 plugs can also be sealed with hotglue or silicone, insert dummy plugs cut short if you wish to keep them usable.

They are the NL4 type.

The jacks are on the panel to the chamber.

Where specifically around the NL4 jacks do I have to seal with the hotglue ? On the inside of the connectors , outside of the panel , in the cracks of the input itself ??

And as far as dummy plugs goes ... are you suggesting just taking an old guitar cable , cutting it in two and then ripping the plugs from their connectors and inserting them into the jacks ??

No dummy plugs, I forgot you were talking about a T60 chamber. Seal them.

The speakons have 4 holes, seal them all.

4 holes should be glued on the inside? Are they in the connector itself?

As in I'll open up the panel and be putting hot glue near the wiring ??

Ok ... so i'm forced to assume that as soon as I crack open the jack plate i'll be able to see these 4 holes immediately ??

That's right you can look right through the jack. So after you've got your wires where you need them 100%, SEAL it all.

Huh? If you can't see them to put cables in them from the outside where the hell are they?

The question is as much nonsense as asking if there is a gas tank behind the filler cap on your car.

Someone has the wrong end of the stick, start again with photo of jack plate.

Instead of trying to find and fill all the little air gaps in those connectors, couldn't he just screw a little box over the sockets on the inside, with some gasket tape around the rim or something, and a drilled and sealed hole in that box for the wires to go through.. That way you could still have the jacks if you want.. Hmmm, now thinking, maybe it's not worth it but just an idea.

Placing jacks in a sealed chamber is the other (1st when practical) option.
