You Have Got To Be Kidding Me!!!

#1 Post by ontime1269 »

There was a guy on another forum inquiring about one of these:
http://www.proaudio.com.au/shoppingcart ... ystem.html
Several years ago, I heard some guys on a different forum rave about these systems. I just took their word for it  . I can't see paying that amount of money for basically, a B-52 Matrix 2000.

The people in Oceania always get raped when it comes to price. No surprise to me.

No doubt it sounds better than a B52... and there is probably someone out there silly enough to spend that much on such a system.

True.
The local importer of a brand name many of us aspire to use here gave me the following reasons for at least 250% markup compared to US prices:
Wholesale margin
Retail margin
Freight
Duty
GST (our tax on goods, flat 10% for now)
Freight
Duty
Warranty costs
Lease costs
He did say "give me your phone number and I'll talk to you about it"

Interesting:
Used system as above for sale in Ireland late last year, asking $3200AU reserve price.
So we're not the only ones getting screwed!
Thomman used to sell them too...

Personally, I'd use the same money to build a pretty fair BFM system!
Built:
DR 250: x 2 melded array, 2x CD horn, March 2012 plans.
T39's: 4 x 20" KL3010LF , 2 x 28" 3012LF.
WH8: x 6 with melded array wired series/parallel.
Bunter's Audio and Lighting "like"s would be most appreciated...

More than fair! You'd probably be able to rock an easy thousand+ peeps with that.

Btw. If you get a better deal on the Big E drivers you gotta let us know! Tell him you have a community of DIY enthusiasts behind you who would be keen to buy Aus instead of import lol. Wholesale prices would be nice.

I did ask about that.
Anyone one of us who decides to become an authorised builder (or a PA hire company), with sufficient throughput, and meeting the "other" criteria, can get wholesale through them.
Wouldn't want to steal Harley's thunder at this stage...

What he did also say was, "who's your nearest stockist, I'll tell them to look after you".
I don't want to screw them either, I know the family and buy most of my other gear from them for drumming, as do most of our band.

He put it differently... "Just the same as everyone else in Australia"
Built:
DR 250: x 2 melded array, 2x CD horn, March 2012 plans.

Ok, this isn't on topic but still fits within the title of this thread:

Hmmm, might be worth considering doing a group purchase if a bunch of us could organise and agree to buying a decent quantity of the same driver.
Do want 12+ subs, but... :broke:
