Eq'ing the subs flat is matter of personal taste. The bass drops where you need the lows tend to be alone in the mix from what I gather so you might get away with not sacrificing heavy hitiing 80hz in order to have appreciable 30Hz. Not my bag really, you'll get a heap of different opinions on that.
Are you saying to drop the eq sensitivity at 80hz ???
Ya got me there, poor use of words on my part.
"Bass drops" as in those sweeping dives and wobbles in dubstep. Like I said, not my thing, I thought the dj types would be all over sharing eq tips for that stuff.
Thinking about it again I suppose flattening it would do no harm to your 80hz, just turn it up!
And later when you say to "flatten them independently" i'm assuming you mean one channel at a time ???

Bass drops, as in those sweeping bass synth plunges and wobbles. Poor writing on my part, sorry.
I thought the dj types would be all over giving you eq tips.
Thinking aboutit again you can probably flatten it as much as you like and crank the amp until the limiter hits, no worries!

Re: 2x Otops + 2x T60 slims + Crown xTi4000
Ahhh ok now I get ya ... I get confused easily ...
I ended up bumping the Eq in four spots :
+4db around 35hz
+1db around 42hz
+5db around 150hz
+3db around 1200hz
Everything sounds good for the most part ... I have the input set to stereo so I can control the subs channel and tops channel independently.
I did notice though that the sub in the older t60 slim is making a slight rattling noise when I put my ear to the mouth of the box ... It only makes these whispy_light_flutter (rattle??) sounds when its hitting real low ...
The other lab12 still sounds ok and is not making this sound at all ...
I'm wondering if those couple months of usage really loosened the sub that much or if it could be the box not being properly sealed ?? Its performance is slightly less than the newer one.

So, they sound "different"? They shouldn't. Best check for leaks, damaged/loose driver, and loose panels.metaverse wrote:

Does indicate something amiss with driver killing potential.

rut roh!
After I crack the panel open what should I be checking for exactly and how would I check for seal leaks ??
Should I crack open the panel on the newer one as well to compare the two ??
When I seal the panel's back up should I use some type of adhesive ??

Play 20hz at low volume, should be silent but a leak will wheeze. I never figured out how guys get very far listening for leaks with plastic tube up the horn. On my BAT I have a 180w bend, I listened, put cover on, listened for cover leaks, called it good.
Driver leaks seem a little commonplace. They really shouldn't be.

Re: 2x Otops + 2x T60 slims + Crown xTi4000
So I THINK I may have narrowed down the problem ...
I did as you said and ran a 20hz test tone through the subs ... I put my ear next to the panels and the only leaks I could detect are coming directly out of the 2x 1/4" inputs on the plates for each sub.
The thing is both of the subs have the same leaks and they still sound different : The newer sub still sounds deeper and tighter (as to be expected since its new I suppose ??).
So my question at this point is can I just buy some caps for the 1/4" jacks and be o.k. or is there another potential issue that could be leading to the older sub sounding a bit weaker and giving off those fluttering_whisper sounds ???

Oh dear, tell us you haven't used 1/4" jacks on the driver chambers?

Re: 2x Otops + 2x T60 slims + Crown xTi4000
If by driver chambers you mean either of the 2 trapezoidal panels that you remove in order to get to the driver from either the right or left side then yes.
The jack plate has 2 speakons and 2 1/4" jacks for daisy chaining and is on one of the panels while the other trapezoidal panel is just wood.

Re: 2x Otops + 2x T60 slims + Crown xTi4000
screw the 1/4 jacks. If you really need a backup put bare wire screw terminals on there. fill those holes with some bondo/epoxy/pl/whatever your filler of choice is.

You done messed that up real good! Lucky if you haven't wrecked drivers. The driver chamber must be 100% sealed, no leaks whatsoever.

Re: 2x Otops + 2x T60 slims + Crown xTi4000

so chances are that i've seriously abused the older one and its loose and thats why its making those whispy_flutter sounds when its hitting real low ...

Oh well ... Lesson Learned.
Would some type of Gorilla Tape , Duct tape do the trick for now until I can get some proper caps or do I have to fill them up with some type of epoxy ??
