Duratex II satin--thumbs up!

#1 Post by Tom O'Shea »

If you haven't yet made the change to the new Duratex formulation in satin--wow.

I had thought the Duratex folks at Acrytech were a little too enthusiastic ("You're gonna love this stuff! You're gonna LOVE this stuff!!"), but I do like it a lot.

I've used duratex for a couple of years, and thought it was great. Terrific adhesion and coverage, very nice texture, super easy to use.

I put the last of my old supply on a newly built AT as a prime coat, and then opened my can of the new material for a texture coat.

I used a foam-type texture roller (no spray equipment), and found the new duratex has even better use properties than the old--goes on very nicely with the texture roller, which I always had to fight with a bit when using the older duratex.

The little nubbly things the texture roller puts on stay in place even better than before, and produce with much less effort an even better textured finish.

For my use, duratex 2.0 (that is, the newer formulation) is a really nice improvement.

Has anyone sprayed the new formula yet?

I haven't sprayed it, but I absolutely agree. The satin is much easier to work with, does hold texture better. Even without texturing, I think it's a much nicer look

Higher pressure, smaller tip size for a nice lightly pebbled finish, over the original formula . Bigger nozzle for larger lumps, more like ceiling texture.

It's all the new formulation. There used to be product called hi build, and they incorporated it into the existing two lines and discontinued it.

I have 4 cabs with high build that could use some touch ups. Will this new product match it or do you think I need a whole new coating? Phil

Spray grade is a good match.
