A tip to keep from cutting your wood the wrong way

#1 Post by djtrumptight »

What worked for me was to draw dotted lines along the widths of all my panels,it kept me from cutting the wrong sides which in turn allowed me to complete 2 T 39's without wasting any wood.Simple but it worked.

The way cabinetmakers do that is to mark the side where they want the saw kerf to go with a wavy line next to the scribe line. There's nothing more exquisitely painful than realizing you just ruined a $1000+ slab because you cut on the wrong side of the line.

I remember on my very first BFM build attempt (a 36" T48 with 3/4 ply monster  ), I didn't even know what kerf was. I'm no expert, but I have come a long way.

Yep, wavy line or a few crosses on the waste side... and hope you're following the right line :fingers:
