THT-LP (26" wide)
THT-LP (26" wide)
Here starts my little ol' build thread.
I picked up the .5" ply from Lamperts on Saturday (Jan 14) and cut the parts out that afternoon. No pics of that. Due to space, I had to drag the table saw outside to the driveway where I cut everything in 10 degree weather (~5 below zero windchill). Northwest Wisconsin FTW.
Monday: The 15" dayton driver and 500W Bash plate amp showed up at my door. Thank you again PE.
Tuesday: Cut and drilled the driver holes in baffle (part 6). Hmmm, no driver template?
Today: Beginning of assembly.

I'm wondering the same thing. I built my THTLP 36" wide, and it'll fit through any doorway.subharmonic wrote:Just out of curiosity why 26"? Doorways?

I'm so envious. My garage isn't heated...sandwichman wrote:Bummer! I've been doing all my cuts in Northeast WI in a lovely heated garage!

Progress was slow last weekend. The plywood is so warped, a few of my joints popped open after setting in clamps for 48 hours. More glue and more screws.

Are you using PL Premium adhesive?tomsza wrote:The plywood is so warped, a few of my joints popped open after setting in clamps for 48 hours. More glue and more screws.

Spritz it with water. PL needs heat and humidity to cure properly, and in winter the air is very dry.tomsza wrote:Oh yeah, on my second tube now.DJPhatman wrote:Are you using PL Premium adhesive?

Let me ask a quick question....how did you get that first joint fastened lined up right and without getting glue all over the place? It looks like once you get going it's piece by piece and pretty straightforward-but that first ungainly joint....I'm starting my that-lp project soon. Thanks for the thread man

Looking Good!
Tomsza, looing good there! My ply was warped as well and it took a lot of guideboards (and I stilll didn't use enough of them), patience, screws and glue to keep the tuba flat (I'm building the TTLS).
Joe, on both my TT and TTLS builds, to minimize glue getting spread all over on that first panel, I used the guide boards Bill recommends before securing the panel in place (I used brads). I also prefit my carpenter squares and clamps so I knew where they needed to go before I put the PL on. I removed the clamps, squares and panel, then put PL where it needed to go. The panel was put in place and bradded in. I removed the guide boards and cleaned them and the carpenter squares with mineral spirits before the PL set. Then mineral spirits also helped clean up any PL on the speaker panel.

Re: THT-LP (26" wide)
To everyone dealing with and still using warped wood:
Is it really worth the frustration and additional build time using crappy plywood? If you had it to do all over again, would you just pony up for the baltic birch and have an easier and ultimately better looking build?
Just wondering....
