Dual T-48's

#1 Post by chopperguy99 »

I did an initial reveiw a while back, but I ran sound for a classic/80's metal band last night, and have to share the results. I could only wall load the titans. I stacked them on their sides with the mouths about a foot or so from the wall facing the dance floor. I had 1800 watts (900 to each cab) available crossing over at around 120hz. My tops are still SP-2's  My xover has a 40hz limiter, and the eq in the low region was flat. The low end was simply crushing. Not boomy or woofy sounding like direct radiators. The kick drum, low toms, and bass guitar was moving my pant legs 40 feet from the stage! I hadn't pushed the subs like that yet, and they exceded my expectations once again. The singer came out to the board while the guitarist sang a tune, and said that was the best he has ever heard the band sound....Wait till I get some 250s built!

I've just completed my second 29" 3015LF loaded T48 in anticipation of a 3 band gig this weekend. The solo T48 has blown me away and I can't wait to run both of them together. My setup is pretty much the same, pair of SP2x's with the T48's to complement. I'm hoping to do some DR250's as well, but in the mean-time the SP2x's aren't exactly a shabby speaker either.

You're right, the Peavey SP2's are not shabby speakers as I own four of them. They have since been put into use as backups and loaners. I do use a pair for extra volume on large outdoor venues when needed. When playing indoors my 2-dr250's have replaced my four sp2's. Now that my second pair of dr's are almost complete the Peaveys are gonna be strictly loaners. They just CANNOT compare volume wise or in clarity to the 250's. I highly recommend this build. I'll soon begin my third pair of T48's  . Good luck!

Backing in from the other door...

I just used my 250's for the first time live (see my review this forum) and am starting a T39.

The 250's absolutely blew me (and everyone else) away.

Clarity, punch, volume, they did it all.

The wall at stage left ran the entire length of the club, one of the DR's was setting next to it. I looked at it and thought about boundary loading the 250, figured it was a dumb idea, then said the hell with it. I sat the 250 right next to the wall and parallel since I had the tweeters to consider. The amount of bass that cabinet produced was amazing. I could feel the kick in my chest from 12-15' away. There was a noticable difference between it and the other one sitting out in the open.

So me, I'm excited to hear the 250's with subs!

Build the 250's. They're difficult, time consuming, a pain in the ass, and worth every friggin' bit of it.

Actually, if you like building stuff they're a fun project. But they're definitely time consuming.
