Thanks a lot guys.. Can't wait to get a DCX2496 and an SPL meter so I can EQ it.. Did a few tests with the sub outside, ran a few test tones.. Was amazed at 30hz, which made my toolshed shake like there was an earthquake going on :D

I did make small change to the LAB12 plans, as the epoxy snapped on one of the t-nuts, so I had to make an access panel on the side as the chamber wasnt airtight.. So instead of using t-nuts i just used regular bolts, and it was a lot easier to tighten the driver firmly without worrying about the epoxy!

The tops getting some duratex love.. Such a lovely product!

This is what I had to do when I had a leak i JUST COULDNT FIND.. I had tried everything, so as a last resort I picked up a jigsaw and carefully cut open the cab.. Its now closed and filled and the sub works like a charm..

Cheers :)

I just received a Digital Radioshack SPL meter.. Got it for 35£ on ebay.co.uk, which is pretty nice.. Just need to find a cheap external soundcard to go with it for measurements.. Any recommendations?

I tested both subs today outside in the carport, and it litterally shook the toolshed so much that everything starting falling off shelves.. The entire shedwall was moving back and forth and a metal ladder inside physically moved - heavy stuff, with just a 20year old weak amp :D

Can't wait to test it in a room made of concrete!! :D

The speakers are really coming along, nearly finished! Pictures coming in a few days..

I've ordered the Behringer DCX2496, but i'm wondering about measuring and setting up the system, would the DEQ2496 suffice for measuring of the speakers and room etc?

Yes, if you get the reference mic to go with it. The DEQ and the DCX are a nice combo!

Oh about the DCX, the manual will not make sense to you the first time round. It describes what the thing does but not what effect any of the settings have on anything. I went in pretty much blind, played with the things and figured (most of it) it out in an hour or so. Don't be afraid to ask on this one, it's not particularly intuitive.

Soooooooo, i've finished my build! As promised here are more pictures of the finished beasts.. I'll write some impressions in the end of the post..

Doing last few tweaks before paint.. Its freakin cold and humid here in Denmark this time of year, so I have a small basement room I use to paint in, I have a heater in there and a de-humidifier running so its easy 45 degrees celcius and extremely dry in there - the duratex dries of in a matter of 30mins or so.. Makes it quick and easy to paint!
Image

Ordered 100m cable in UK and made my own speakon cables.. The quality of the cables is excellent and saved me some 100$ compared to buying similar cables in this rip-off country!

Doing a few amp tests outside and setting up the DCX2496, its nice and easy to work with, just need to figure out how to set up limiters.. Afair I set a 9ms delay on the tops, and set the sub HPF at 45hz and crossed at 121hz..
Image
Image
Image

The amps i use is a mix match of what we had available, so I made a small rack for the amps so its easy to figure out for the others that have access to the amps..
Image
Image

All finished and done.. Did a couple of tests before moving it to the bar!
Image

The room where the setup will be used 80% of the time.. Someone broke in last week, so im changing the setup from a more permanent installation to a mobile setup we can put up and down when we use it, that was its behind lock when not in use! Will help me sleep better at night ;)
Image

Tried a million sub placements and finally settles on splitting the subs and facing them towards opposite corners.. All other placements had a bunch of room modes with bass dissappearing almost completely some areas.. This way the bass is tight all over the room and hits extra hard in the middle between the subs where people tend to dance - which is perfect!

Impressions in next post....

1st thought: Wow.

2nd thought; Wow, this is really amazing.

I must say that i'm extremely impressed with the Omnitops and even more so with the T39's.. I had promised my friends in the bar that I would use the funds we were granted to build something great, but even though i'm very impressed, its nothing compared to the awe I left my friends in - they did not see this coming!

The sound is big, clear, and totally unconstrained.. Bass is tight and hits hard, chest-thumpingly hard and puts huge smiles on people faces!

During the tests I had an acquaintance drop by I know from the club-environment here in my town and he's been working with music for 25 years, DJing, producing and buying systems used in a chain of clubs here in Denmark.. I was looking forward hearing what he had to say. He looked mighty happy when he saw the build - until I gave the volume a spin and he lit up in a smile.. Immediately asked if I had EQ'ed (which i havent yet, as i dont have a DEQ2496 yet) and was amazed that I hadnt.. He though there was a bit too much mid output and thought the 3-4khz area was a bit too high but other than that he was very very impressed.. I then proceeded to tell him about the subs and I can still laugh at the thought of his facial expression when I told him the subs only contained 1 x 12" woofer - as he is used to using 2x18" reflex subs, which in his words >couldnt keep up<.. When I asked him to try and lift one of the T39's he couldnt believe how light it is!

Later I moved the setup to our cantina which holds 2-300 people and we use it for larger parties.. V'ed the subs on a wall without a v-plate, which i havent made yet, but the larger room only made the sound even better and the subs was filling every inch of this large room with tight bass.. I loved it and so did my friends!

So a huge thanks to Bill for designing such wonderful speakers.. Can't wait to build more BFM cabs.. Already planning on a few TLAH, an SLA and a T18/AT for a HT :-)

That's the same setup that I've got and you're quite right, they're immense. Mine require painting and the tops need to be EQ'd which I've got the kit for already. The beauty of these subs is they sound effortless, most subs really sound like they're struggling at high volume but these ones make zero complaints all the way through the range.

Those looks really nice, good work! :D
