Bizarre, got the crown xti 2000 hooked up to the laptop. 3.5mm mini jack to neutrik xlr for the signal input. Running sinewave generator almost on full steam @30Hz only 12.5 volts AC into 8 ohms? I was expecting a whole lot more. On the second last notch on the dial the display lights are only on -20dB. Is it possible that a lack of input voltage from the laptop is causing this piss weak output? Help please

I can get 1.4V in stereo out of my laptop, running audacity. It has to be turned right up on both the computer and the audacity output.

I'm not sure how that translates when you take an XLR off an unbalanced half of a stereo unbalanced conection. My guess is you would get 0.7V, ie enough. But easy to check.

I'd have to go googling to find input sensitivity for the amp, over to you at this hour of night, we just won the rugby!

well I'm finally almost finished. got the rest of the construction completed last night. drivers burnt in at 30hz for 12 hours between 9.8 & 10 volts. Still incredibly concerned at the lack of output from the crown xti 2000. "hopefully" between 100 & 45Hz the amp will be able to muster a little closer to the cab limit of 50volts. Is there anything else I can do to help it along? signal pre-amplifier or something?
My afternoon is to be spent wiring the speakons & drivers into the cab's and loading them up with weather stripping.

my first observations of the cabs, sans drivers is; they really aren't that big, weigh nothing and look fierce as hell

looking back...I'm buggered... and really about enjoy my beer in front of my new titans on this glorious 30 degree + celsius day

Amp shouldn't have any problem producing 30Hz.

You said the input meter on amp was down. Some amps need .7V and others 1.4V to drive them up to maximum. I believe the ones needing 0.7V are getting a balanced signal so it's actually 1.4V in total.

Look to your wiring if the output of the laptop isn't down. Your best bet is wiring one channel in an unbalanced XLR. Off top of my head I can't remember how that's meant to go but the Rane note that Bill posts from time to time will tell you. Number 110 iirc.

Oh Wow.... I just played around with the crossover settings on my amp. i discovered a thing called bandpass gain it goes to +15dB I wound it up to 6 now I'm getting somewhere. Had the driver sitting in the cab, me sitting on the door, 4th notch on amp, all laptop levels down to only around 30%....



It bloody pumps, just for interest sake would I be the first person to profess my love for Bills work?

Slow down there dude. Others have put cart before horse in their enthusiasm and come unstuck.You sealed the driver by sitting on the access panel? Try following the instructions before you blow a driver.

Instructions followed. I turned it off. And re-assessed the situation with a level head albeit a smiling one.

I have to get a tap for one of the driver hurricanes, epoxy in it causing me grief. No matter how careful one is you can never underestimate the will of epoxy, it behaved like friggin mercury.
A second M6 tap required for three of the ten tee-nuts in the front door 5A.

I've had the Multimeter on the back of the speakon going into the cab, it was bloody pumping and only reading like 13.2 volts! These are INSANE System architect a breeze for crossover settings as per plans. Researching the limiter this evening.

Any advice in using a tap? (not a faucet) Is it something like a quarter turn forward, eighth of a turn back proceeding all the way through. Thanks guys.

Yes. But sometimes even 1/4 turn can be too much. Turn until you get some concerning resistance, then back off 1/2 of what you have turned.

Use a cutting fluid or something like INOX which is available in OZ on your tap.

So I got the taps this morning. The old mate in the engineering supplies pretty much said word for word what you said! I've got the INOX too.
With my second cab, I trial fitted all of the bolts, again, just to save headache. Not one of them offered any resistance. Although I have a bloody leak, so very slight where the driver mounts to the baffle backer. I understand that Silicone based sealers are off limits.
Any idea of a suitable caulking compound or similar that is readily available for me to fix up the leak?

I was considering getting an acrylic based sealer from Fullers? Bunnings (big box hardware) have a monolithic range of Fullers gear. Thanks in advance. I'll be tapping the epoxy out of the threads this evening.

If you can get hold of it Holdfast MSS 220. If not any Fullers MSS ( Modified silicon ) but leave it 48 hours to set. I will go like rubber.
