PL Adhesion

#1 Post by GirlyHandedDog »

Does anyone know how well fresh PL adheres to cured PL? I had to join a panel and the squeeze-out was flattened by the cauls and wax paper precisely where I'll be adding an adjoining panel. Not really looking forward to sanding off smeared PL, but if needed I will.

Thanks.

Scrape the area flat with a chisel, and attach the next panel.

Thanks for the reply Stan, I'm sure that's what I'll wind up doing. I guess I was looking for some info on experience with PL to PL adhesion. I didn't mention this in the original post, but I'm also curious on this for when I attacth the 2nd side to my T60... even though there's probably only a few mil of PL where the internal panels are butt-joined together, that few mil will have to adhere to the 2nd side at each joint...and I don't want any air leaks. I'm guessing PL sticks fine to cured PL, but wanted a confirmation.

It will adhere fine, otherwise we all would be in trouble. I wouldnt do any long runs but where all the panes meet when you add you second side is fine.

Check my sig. I have used a tube or two of PL in my day.... :noob:

PL to cured PL will bond fine. There are very few things that PL will NOT stick to...but PVC is one of those things...which is interesting for anyone building DR's...and is covered in the plans.
