Re: Paint and finish ideas
The way they're doing it with me is they had me send in a color sample. They'll call me upon receipt and I'll pay for it by credit card then, followed by them shipping it to me. Their office hours are Monday -Thursday. I mailed off the sample Thursday. I'll let you know when the paint arrives.

I just got a call from Acrytech and paid for the paint. It is running me $86 shipped. They said it should take four or five days to get to me. I'd imagine Florida to Dallas would go a bit quicker than Florida to Portland.

Re: Paint and finish ideas
1 gallon. They have two tintable bases, a white base and a deep base. I believe the deep base is their most expensive (if not I got way screwed). Plus they hammered me to the tune of $17 on shipping. If I buy more I will probably go with black; but I really wanted this first set to be my cabs, so I bit the bullet.
Gawd if I don't like how it turns out this is gonna suck.

As a painting contractor I can assure you that any "deep" base paints will be more $. If you look at any color swatches that go from light to dark, the half way mark is where your price jump will generally start.
Once you go Jack, you never go back!

Years ago when I was a paint dealer tints were anywhere from $30-50 a quart. No tellling how much they are now.

Old school hardware store. Wood floors, wood drawers, the works. We sold everything. Before the days of WalMart

I can smell those shops in my mind! Rubber, brush heads, paint, adhesives, and dust!LelandCrooks wrote:Old school hardware store. Wood floors, wood drawers, the works.
"Ironmongers" we call them in UK. Or called them. Very rare nowadays. B&Q and Walmart put paid to them. Like supermarkets with local butchers.
Re: Paint and finish ideas
We've had somewhat of a renaissance with smaller shops around here. There's three butchers I frequent now, and a smaller grocery store chain that specializes in Asian foods - along with great, cheap produce from all over the world, too. Lot of boutique clothing shops that carry designer brands, and even smaller, locally owned music stores. We also have a TON of those live-work-play communities popping up everywhere on the north end of Atlanta. It's kind of weird.
I go to Ace as much as I can, and they often have a lot of smaller items that the big boxes don't even carry. We do all of our consumables at Target. Haven't been inside a Wal-Mart in almost 4 years. Customer service, all the way up to a regional VP, was atrocious, so we boycott em.
My pail of white was $70 something shipped to Atlanta. Maybe the distance, maybe shipping has gone up... who knows. As long as you prepare the surfaces well and take your time finishing the cabs, they come out well with Duratex. When you rush the job, it's inconsistent or spotchy... but then again, if it's black, no one will notice anyway.

that all? over here we'll pay that or more on small computer parts ($20 is pretty standard). cost me $100 each to get my 2 jack 110s from the next state.cheapbasslovin wrote: Plus they hammered me to the tune of $17 on shipping.

Seemed steep at the time, I was expecting around 10 or 12$ for shipping. If Duratex is as good as everybody says it will have been well worth it.CafSentryGnome wrote:that all? over here we'll pay that or more on small computer parts ($20 is pretty standard). cost me $100 each to get my 2 jack 110s from the next state.cheapbasslovin wrote: Plus they hammered me to the tune of $17 on shipping.

For musicians gear it is already happening. Walmart online is carrying all kinds of low end and beginner instruments, amps, effects, etc. If they are successful there, it is only a matter of time before they try to push out their elbows.subharmonic wrote:I just had a bad thought.
