loud bass guitar

#1 Post by deathjazz »

hi everyone! been reading here for a year or so, time to get with it. I currently play an Ibanez BTB 776 6 string or 2 through an Ampeg 810 HPC Ultra. The really heavy one (205 lbs!) Soo... thinkin maybe a jack or few. Or something else per good recommendation? Have to really get out in front of an already loud band. Think Wally Voss meets Stu Hamm meets lots (and sometimes a whole lots) of beer. Slappin, tappin, random noise, etc... But good solid groove too. Been thinkin 2 or 3 J12s, but the J15 seems to be cool from reviews. Would be using tweets. Been doin custom paint/body for years, so i'm pretty handy with 'glass and would likely build with composite instead of ply. so to anyone who uses them, for really really loud, clean, versatile bass guitar,(and to replace the way heavy Ultra) which way to go? two Jack 12s? 3? two Jack 15s? any thoughts on HO vs DP for clarity at destructive volume? A Titan/DR stack might be pushing it for my space on the trailer, but idk. Many thanks for all the great info already gained from this forum. Its nice to find intelligent folks, if only on occasion.

Pair of Jack 12's, or omni 15.
If it's too loud, you're even older than me! Like me.

I'll recommend two jack 112 cabs. I love mine and I think they can get extremely loud. If you need more then two, I pray for your hearing.
Once you go Jack, you never go back!

Done:
(2) Jack 12, 3012ho, Straight Array with On/Off Switch
In Process
(4) Dr200 Beta 8, Melded Array

Much thanks for the fast response. I originally wanted to build J12s and almost bought the premium drivers right before the price increase :slap:

Now I was wandering if i'd get more "bang for the buck" by going with 15s or does the tone seem to suffer compared to 10s or 12s as does with more conventional designs? I MUCH prefer my heavy ass fridge to some dual 15s I've used, but maybe they just suck more than others that I have not tried.

Also the volume potential compared to what I am currently using. it doesn't have to hurt people, but its nice when needed for very large stages. Seems I can never get good bass in a monitor.
Also my guitards usually tuned to C so I spend a good amount of time down low, but not all the time.

The T39 would be 39"h x 22"w x 19.5"d, the DR250 would be approximately 22" cubed. Measure the trailer to calculate if they'll fit or make cardboard mockups to physically try for fit.

Just back from much deserved vacation. Will be checkin fit for a T 39 and DR250 with mock up soon.

I think I'll buy the CD this week and build several (sounds more like fun than work anyway). May have some down time in a couple of weeks, be something productive to do in the shop while the hanger is empty.

The Omni 15 may suit my needs cause I like hi-fi sound, the Jack might cause i like volume, or i would possibly let whichever i dont prefer go for material cost if anyone is interested in a foam/glass/carbon fiber/Kevlar composite built Jack or Omni since thats alot more familiar to me than plywood.

anyway, thanks alot, and look for me on the build thread in three to four weeks cause I'm way overdue for some cool new stuff!
