Pack space vs. 4x T60 and the winner is.....

#1 Post by Armchair Pirate »

I just did measurements and Usable Pack space inside my van and it came out to be 12'7" Long 5'4" wide and 4' 3" tall.
Unless I am missing something It would seem I can fit 4 30" Duel 12" T60s in the van with room for not much else...

Then where are you going to keep the roadie to help pick up, or at least to drive the fork lift truck, those bad boys?

Hey, don't unpack them... just drive the van into the gig and crank 'em up!

If you don't have the means to carry them you probably don't really need them.

I can still fit the SA1232 tops (Bairly) and the SRM450s with turn tables / Mixer. not sure about an Amp rack as I have never had to own one yet. The T48s are looking like a better option but there is a certain draw to the T60s. When I 1st acquired my PA System 4 subs 2 tops 2 moniters i had to rent a U-haul for every gig till I finally found the van I have now. I will buy a small enclosed trailor if I need to for something THIS amazing. How much does the 30" Duel 12" T60 Weigh anyway?

If you can fit for of them in there, why not use two or three (remember, no v coupling here) for the smaller gigs and use only the four of them for the biggest of stuff and then you could rent a little trailer. Amps have no problem with running odd numbers of cabs.

Of course, my recommendation for any kind of portable sound, be it bass heavy or not, is t39's across the board. They have enough extension to compete with mostly everything in the marker and is what people are used to. But then again, if you want those t60's, by all means, build them. But you will sure remember those t39's every time you load in and out.

i just packed my van yesterday with 6 24inch t48, and one dual lab t60. plus amp racks, Ls9 flightcase, and 2 dr250s. its the first time ive tried fitting the t60 in with other gear. man its big. i can stack dr280s on top of t48s in the van, but there isnt much room on top of a t60. im going to go for two more slim t60 to match the width of the dually.

How much does a T60 Weigh? How about a T48? Or if you don't know the weight, how many people does it take to carry each?

Leaving the width variable out, the T48 (48"x24") is much smaller than the T60 (60"x30"), so the T48 will generally weigh considerably less. Also, the T60s use LAB drivers, which are much heavier than the 3015LF.

From the sales page, "A 48x24x24 inch T48 loaded with an Eminence 3015LF driver weighs less than 100 pounds." One reasonably strong guy could maybe lift one in a pinch; two guys, no problem. The T60 is not only heavier (dunno how much), but it's also bulkier (60"x30"x?"), so it'll be more awkward to lift and carry. For comparison, it's size is roughly that of two 4x12 guitar cabs.

The T48 is good to 40hz, or 35hz in groups of four or more. I really can't imagine that you really need more extension than that, but that's your decision to make.

I agree 35-40hz is good for now. 1 I dont know the next time I will be able to afford building more subs so if it is going to be a while (several years most likely) I want to already have the gear that goes LOW. That and I already own the T60 plans... Anybody in WA have a T60 and a T48 I can compare?

My T60 1x15 can be slid in and out of my Toyota Previa by myself, I have no roadies. Sucks to drag of stairs, even a couple. Whenever I can use its casters it is not an issue at all to move, I would never try to take it up more than 5 stairs without hiring help. Probably getting close to 200 lbs, it is designed for serious uncompromising lows (>35hz) not ease of transport, vs the T48 anyway. I would imagine it is easier to move than a T36 of THT of similar width, hence one of the reasons it replaced the T36.
