4dr280 4t48 controlled wirelessly with iPad and Ls9

#1 Post by Dave Non-Zero »

Here is my new toy. :) big smiles from me! First gig with my new iPad and it connects seamlessly with my ls9 and is a joy to use!
What a difference being able to mix from anywhere in the room. I will definitely have to learn to adjust my mix and it will help me make the mix sound better for the audience without a doubt.
Also, being able to do monitors from the stage is blowing my mind!!!! :)

Oh, and really sorry about the sound quality, my iPhone is terrible for that. It had better be upgrade in the new one!

Here is another one that is nearly quiet enough to get a clean sound.
I was sitting at the other side of the venue at this point, and when the acoustic break finished, I could unmute the channels my laptop was playing music on and bring it up in FOH all without moving! Then when the full band came back on... Music down, unmute whole band.... Amazing! Hahaha.

Again apologies for any distortion in the recording.

cool. I love using the ipad with the consoles, with a PreSonus 16:4 most recently. Mobility while you mix is where it's at. Very nice!

No differently than without it. The iPad is nothing more than a remote control.

Been doing this for a couple of years now with SAC and a laptop. It's very hard to go back to analog these days.

The ls9 is plugged into a wireless router using an normal LAN cable, then the iPad connects to the router and you type in some meaningless numbers - ip addresses etc, and press connect and boom. It works!

No laptop required. My router is used just for this, no Internet in the venue.

I read somewhere that you could get the Ipad to work with SAC as well. Anyone tried it?

There is a guy near me that has SAC on an Ipad. Last I heard was not very stable but it works.

Touch screens and mixing can be touchy,I have accidentally bumped a fader to +20dB.

It's an indirect route. You can do it through a RDP or VNC type app, taking control of either the host or a remote... i don't imagine it would work all that well (as has been suggested).

Simply put, SAC is designed to be controlled with a mouse. Most of those that are having success with touch screens are either using the big 3M multitouch display (which has some drawbacks, and isn't very portable) or the little Motion Computing tablets which require a stylus. Someone also has a MIDI control app for iDevices mapped to one of the supported SAC controllers.

The iPad control idea is neat, and maybe one day Mr. Lentini will release and API for his remote protocol so someone can code an iPad control app. He'a slso mentioned that he has the Android SDK, and is exploring a native SAC Remote program for that platform, which would make more sense - the tablets are less expensive and the platform is supposedly more open for developers to customize.
