Omni TB 15 Plans

#1 Post by pl20550 »

I just got my OTB 15 plans and started cutting out parts. I built the Mid horn assembly that fit together well; however, the instructions indicat that the horn front is to be trimmed to 5 by 7 inches. Is this correct? The baffle is 6 3/4" square. Also, the horn is centered in the upper portion of the cabinet - not like the one pictured on the web site. Do I have the correct plans?

Go ahead and trim as per the plans. Put the horn mouth-first when trial fitting. When the fit is right (and tight), then withdraw the mid-horn, PL the edges, and install the mid-horn coming from the inside.

The TB on the show page may have just the mid-horn, and not the tweets. It depends on you, I guess. If you're quite handy with woodworking, then a slight change will work in this case. If not, just stick to the plans. (Mine say to centre the mid-horn and tweet(s)).

Hi Tom,
thanks for the reply. I guess my concern is the size of the horn front. On page 12 the instructions say to trim down to 5x7 inches yet the baffle is 6 3/4 inches square. Given these dimensions, how does the horn "flare out" as in the diagram? I operate a samll woodworking business and feel comfortable cutting the angles, etc. but I must be interpreting something wrong because more subscribers would be scratching their heads as well. Wouldn't be the first time I've done this!

Thank you for your help.
Paul

I haven't built the O15, but the O12 TB, and there were no particular errors in the plans that I noticed.

The horn attaches to the mid baffle on the narrow end, so there's no problem fitting those together.

Remember: when in doubt, look at the SketchUp model!
In build order:
O12 with no tweeter.
3 x WedgeHorns.
2 x Jack 10 without tweeters.
2 x DR250.
2 x 16" T39
1 x Tuba 24
2 x SLA Pro (sort of...)

The one has nothing to do with the other. If in doubt consult your Sketchup model!

Okay. It seems that that mid horn baffle ( 6 3/4" sq) and the horn front (5x7) are about the same size. I will look at the "sketch up" program for clarification.

Thanks again

Yes, they are. But that is irrelevant. The mid horn baffle is the piece to which you attach the mid driver. It's on the other end of the mid horn from the front.
