XTI 4000 power issue
XTI 4000 power issue
I took 2 of my new T60's for a test run last night. I ran 1 T60 per a channel (each t60 has 2 12's wired in parallel) on a XTI 4000 amp. When i used a voltmeter to measure the output from the amp i could not get more then 10v per channel. When i tried to turn it past the 10v output the amps started clipping. My signal flow was as follows... Mixer - Dbx driverack PA+ - crown XTI 4000. i used the DBX for the crossover and i had the DSP on the Crown XTI 4000 turned off.
Am i doing something wrong or does the Crown XTI 4000 max out at 10v output power?

That's about 6 watts. You did something wrong.Ryker1080 wrote: Am i doing something wrong or does the Crown XTI 4000 max out at 10v output power?

i have the positive terminal from lab 12 "A" wired into the positive terminal of lab 12 "B". then the negative terminal of lab 12 "A" wired into the negative terminal of lab 12 "B".
Then the positive terminal of lab 12 "B" goes to the 1+ tab on the speakon connector and the negative terminal of lab 12 "B" goes to the 1- tab on the speakon connector.
is this improper?

Re: XTI 4000 power issue
Sounds like it could be a gain structure problem. Try removing the drive rack and just using your mixer. Dont connect the speakers, and see what kind of voltage you are getting. If you are getting more than 10V check the way you have the Driverack set up. If its the same, please fill in the signal chain from source to amp and we will see if we can help find the issue.
Also, is this a new amp? First time out, or has it been proven before?

That was the first time using that amp.
so i set up my rack identical to what i had on the go last night but without the speakers plugged in. when i ran a 80 hz test signal i was peaking the voltage at 50v without clipping and when i played a song through a crossover with a hi-pass at 30 hz and a low pass at 95 hz it was hovering around 20-30 volts without clipping.
this is probably what i should expect from the crown xti 4000??
so my speakers are wired as i posted previously. would the problem be in the speak-on cable? the cable has all 4 terminals in use (positive to 1+ and negative to 1- and also the 2+ and 2- are wired. should it only be wired with the 1+ and 1-?

All you need is +1/-1.
The best way to wire up is +1 and -1 from the jack to driver 1 then +1 -1 to driver 2. Then you can just plug cable from the amp to the speakon jack.

Thanks to everyone who helped.
I tested the speakers today and got full voltage. I am starting to think that I could not get full voltage the other night because of the Generator I was using.
Re: XTI 4000 power issue
If you were running an XTI on a generator that could very well have been your problem as they have a switching power supply.Ryker1080 wrote:YesTimeWarp wrote:This is what is so good about these folks (forum). No slam just good friendly help and you got help quickly!

Re: XTI 4000 power issue
I recall a thread in the past 2 months where line voltage (this is the house AC line) was fluctuating and causing dropouts. I forgot who posted a comment but the have a house ac line voltage monitor.
another replay was one place had the ac outlet on a dimmer.
If ac line voltage monitors are cheap, reliable and accurate (i know, I know....pick 2) I think I'll get one.
