I did, it said "Engineers Rarely Touch Women". Is that what you were trying to communicate?
quote]

Something like that. Thank God I left 11 years ago! :hyper: :hyper: :hyper:

But ya, engineers are horrible teachers. Their minds are programmed to think that way. They can't put complex thoughts into words. Ever try and read a technical manual? I was just trying to communicate their mindset to everyone else. They usually get just as frustrated with the situation as the student. I don't really think they will ever change, you just have to learn to live with them.

My wife and children tell me the same thing; they don't get it. So...I try to think of simple analogies that may help explain, and, well, I get better results in trying to teach. KISS. Doesn't always help but there is improvement.

i have learned not to say anything more about my job than 'i fix computers' and normally after i say that i get on of 2 responses.
1. 'oh ok' then they walk off
2. 'my laptop doesn't work can you fix it?'

this last week we had a network upgrade that required the computer systems to go down for a day (for those who care, the core rack and edge racks got replaced and new switches installed). so i hate the words:
'when are the computers going to be working again?'
'are the computers working yet?'
'why aren't the computers working today'
'couldn't you do this some other time'
'will the computer be working by %time%'
'i cant get to my files or the internet'
'cant you do this faster'

on another note, some words that have sent shivers down my spine or have hated hearing;
'does this look good on me?'
'does this make me look fat?'
'what do you like best?'
'i have a small job for you....'
'could you just.....'
'it wont take long'
'why do you love me?'
'why didn't you hug me after i yelled at you? couldn't you see that i was upset'
'don't hug me now, your only doing that because i told you to, leave me alone'
'why didn't you go after me when i told you to leave me alone and stormed off?'
'what parts of my body are attractive to you and don't lie' (boobs and ass was not the correct answer)
'%male friend% is coming over to spend the day with me so could you not be around on %day%'
'we just had a fight' 'you should dump him and get with me'
'ive decided that i'm staying at my sisters house from now on'
'i love you, i'm just not in love with you anymore, love is not enough'
*after a break up*
'can i continue to use your email address for my external studies?'
'you were good but hes sooo much better'
'if i wasn't with him id get back together with you'

and the run and hide phrases:
'trust me i'm a boiler maker'
'i just had this great idea'
'go get the petrol'
'tequila anyone?!?'
'hey guys i just made a beer funnel'

I've gotten to the point in my relationship with my wife that when she wanders into this level of insecurity/ psychosis I just leave and declare that I'm not going to participate in these kinds of no win shenanigans :cop: . I'm much happier for it. I don't know if she is, but we haven't gotten divorced yet.

I don't know whether or not I should laugh or cry at your post. So I did both.

The GF tried this on me .....once. I donned my flack jacket, helmut, and told her the truth. Image

Four years later, and she's never asked those types of questions again. If she was that unfashionable, I wouldn't be with her.

Example:

GF: Poking at what little muffin tops she has "I gotta lose this fat"

Me: "..Gotta start working out."

GF: Giving me the hairy eyeball "That's not nice to say!"

ME: "Calories in, calories out sweetie. You're not going to get rid of that by just standing around at work." :|
Good food, good people, good times.

"So why are you 2 hrs late for dinner then?"

"You know I have a good nose for strange perfume"

Oh...and the real dangerous one....at the shopping centre, a buxom wench comes into the line of sight. "I bet she has a lot of trouble with breasts that size" One has to try extremely hard not to state the obvious reply.

Perhaps not so obvious... the obvious reply to me would be "Oh? I didn't notice..." To which the response would be "Yeah Right."

Fortunately, my wife and I are at the point where we can make jokes about such things and not worry about it. I got a good one, I did. She even listens to me babble on about ribbon tweeters and preamps and other such madness without the appearance of the disinterest that lies beneath.

Only problem is, I usually have to buy gear on the down low becasue she gets her mother to buy her shoes and purses and such, so I have little to bargain with.

Must have passed a milestone in my life... once upon a time I might have had a thought like that. Such didn't even cross my mind.

Mine would be,"I wouldn't know, and I'm not getting a boob job to find out."
