what is the most common way builders are securing the speaker to the spacer ring?
T nuts, Wood screws etc...
I personally don't like the ideal of wood screws, Those threaded inserts or are they called t nuts I have seen in some cases can spin out .

For subs, T-nuts/hurricane nuts and machined bolts are recommended.
For the tops, you can use regular wood screws without issue. I would use a small washer along with the screw and maybe some loctite.
Leland @ SpeakerHardware.com sells special screws called "Recex" screws that I like a lot.

The attachment method depends on the cab configuration. If there's a spacer ring plus baffle the total 1" thickness will hold screws. A 1/2" baffle alone is insufficient for screws, so there blind nuts must be used.

Hi there. I'm getting to the point soon where I'm going to be attaching my ring spacer and getting the box together. So I'm going to be test mounting my drivers. I'm using the recommended drivers for a Jack 212. I'm just unsure about the mounting technique.Bill Fitzmaurice wrote:The attachment method depends on the cab configuration. Based on your statement here, though, I'm thinking I don't have to worry about the hurricane nuts or anything and that, since there is a 1/2" spacer, that I can just screw the drivers directly into the spacers using regular 1" wood screws and lock washers.
Is this correct?
It's the weekend here in Saudi (Thursday and Friday) so with any luck, I'll have some photos up in the Build forms and maybe a full box by Friday night!

I'd just like to point out that the drivers attach to the spacer and baffle. So you've got 1 inch of plywood goodness to sink your scews or t-nuts into. The baffle and spacer go together first. After that you can start worrying about attaching the driver.
