Tools:
Yamaha 01V Classic
iPad
MacBook Pro (any Mac will do, even a G4)
USB to MIDI cable ($5)
Wireless Router or Ad-hoc network
Software:
TouchOSC running on iPad ($4.99)
OSCulator running on MBP ($19)
I'm currently using a pre-made template, but I'll be designing one around the specifics that I need in my shows. Right now I've only got 8 channels plus Master working with the faders. I want to be able to control all 16 main channels, at least 2 sub mixes, and effects on at least 4 of the channels.
First thing, hook up the MIDI cable to your Mac and 01V. Strangely enough (or maybe not, considering it's a $5 cable) the plugs need to be swapped. IN goes to OUT and vice versa.
Second, install OSCulator on the Mac. There's a free trial on it, but it's timed. You'll want to go to Parameters then I/O. Make sure the USB cable is checked in both dropdowns.
Click the MIDI button on your 01V until you get to the "CONTROL CHANGE" page. This will show you how the MIDI commands are assigned.
Now fire up TouchOSC on the iPad. You should immediately see the OSCulator port on the iPad app. Click it and select the template you're using.
Now, as you move the faders, you should see the MIDI indicator on the 01V screen. You'll see on your Mac what MIDI command it's actually sending. Set this to whatever is appropriate. For example, 28 is setup by default for the Master Stereo fader.
Here's how far I've gotten. Progress will be updated here first.

Re: Yamaha 01V Classic - Control Wireless with iPad
I bet! There's already dozens of apps to control things out there. The issue is with documentation, demand, or even potential functionality with gear this old. I've seen other people post their successes with controlling the 01V with the iPad/iPhone, but no one has documented how they did it.
There's a native method to control the 01V96, LS9, etc. But I figure there's gotta be a lot of guys out there that are holding onto the classic 01V, simply because it seems pretty rare in the used market.
I picked this thing up for under $400. If I can get the iPad to control it wirelessly, there's not a very many additional functions in the $1500+ consoles that I'd use.

I saw a iphone/ipad software called AC-7 Core that controls a number of DAW softwares and has a generic mode also.
I believe the cost was 5 bucks

Re: Yamaha 01V Classic - Control Wireless with iPad
hello everyone, I have been meaning to post here and this recent post from bzb has given me a reminder to do so. I have had considerable success with remote control of the 01v using cubase sx, 2 wireless laptops and a similar usb to midi converter as used by bzb. The beauty of this setup is that cubase sx already comes with a template/ program for the 01v. this means that I have full 2 way control between my laptops and the 01v. I can have as many channels as required, it also gives me full eq control as well as channel mutes and solo , auxs etc etc. One drawback is that using the laptop requires use of the pointer and the left click unlike the ipad but it is a good starting point for anybody who requires remote control of their 01v. By the way I also have remote control of my dcx2496 using a usb to serial converter.....regards...Frank Leamy.
