Need a Driver Spacer...Misplaced Compass

#1 Post by doncolga »

Hey,

I've misplaced my giant compass that does up to 24" circles...looked up and down and just can't find the thing. Lowes is out of that model and their other compasses only go to 9", Walmart school compasses look to be 10" max, and of course for the OT12 I need 13" outer. I'm betting Home Depot may have one but they are an hour away.

I figured I could try drawing around the driver to get the outer dimension...any cool ways to draw the inner circle without a compass?

I did the same thing once in the middle of a build and didn't feel like taking the time to go to the store. A long paint stir stick with a finish nail at one end and drilled a hole in the other end of the stick for a pencil!! Worked great.

No...I've been drawing out circles I needed, then cutting out with a jig saw.

Ah-ha!...I've got a paint stick. I was thinking of something with a string, but that's perfect. I'll try that right now.

Very interesting! I used a totally different approach. I placed the driver on the baffle and drew around it, also marked the hold down holes. Drew lines through the bolt holes ,6 or 8 of them, drew more lines between the holes making sure that the line went through the interseting lines in the centre. Then I lifted the driver and measured the gasket width and marked the baffle with that dimension on all the lines from inside the circle, and handed connected all the dots to make the new inner circle.
