A bit of marking out


I did have a rough jig to keep it in place but didnt get a picture as i was to busy stopping them falling over coz of my pour supports!



I decided to glue it together a bit differently as i found it easier this way



My way of clamping the panel down!
Its all looking a bit rough at the moment but i think it will all come together!

i'm just looking at ordering some piezo's and have been doing some research and noticed that the stage line MPT-016 tweeters are made by monacor, which are supposed to be the ones to go for? Just wondering is that correct as it is a fairly costly bill at ~£90 for 24!

The Monacors were good back when I purchased mine. You may want to shoot a PM to forum member Sabbelbacke, he got mine cheaper than that although it has been a while. And always ask Leland for a quote (www.speakerhardware.com, new piezo stock expected soon).

i've explored those options and they are both more expensive than the stageline ones, not by a whole lot really, but about £20 which is enough to sway me!
Also i had a go at breaking in my driver, using a hi fi amp (as i dont hav a mixer for my power amp yet). I got the recommended voltage and test tone (using audacity) and the speaker is moving as it is supposed to but there is also a really high pitch tone aswell, and i am just wondering has this happened to anyone else? as i know that it probably shouldnt be happening

Im thinking the high pitch noise may be to do with your computer/source.

Interested in the conversation about piezo's too! I am keen to build a full bfm system at some point and everybody on here loves melded and straight arrays so interested to see how you get on.
I know a fair few pro sound guys that hate piezos with a passion but I fully trust bill and the other members of this site.

Yeah i have no doubts that i will be using piezo's as i have been doing lots of reading throughout the site! It was just whether or not i do the straight or melded array based on the cost. But then i think sod it I'll just do it properly the first time and get the best sound i can! Which is painful at around £90 but oh well!
I have tried my laptop and desktop and it does it with both but I'll do some more experimenting!

I was very suspect about Piezos and went with the NSD horns instead. However, I'm getting more and more tempted to build a pair of OT12s with the melded array to put below the others. Dispersion up close is an issue with the diffraction horn.

I havnt really looked at the nsd horns tbh, just because the majority of people seem to go with with piezo's

Just received my adjustable top hats and was wondering does it matter how much it intrudes out from the throat reflectors? and is this where they are supposed to go? It just seems like it will be sticking out way to much!

They should not interfere, so shim them on the cab bottom as required.

Ive been using the dr280s with piezo arrays for a few years now and had zero problems with them. they do need eq to get them sweet but once you do, they are great.
even at the price they are for pair of arrays, they are cheaper than 4 good comp drivers.

I would consider the comp driver route if i was going for 3012HO drivers and outdoor applications with big power. So far mine have been sufficient and get only compliments.

ok bill, but in the plans it does say that they can stick through the throat reflector a bit so i will just try to make sure that i keep it to a minimum! and seal it properly

That's with a standard tube, not the adjustable rig. I have no experience with that.
