Thanks Bill.. and for ONE last question (hopefully )... I have verything just about done... just have to install the side panel and the 2 vent braces.... here's my problem... I forgot that I hadn't cut the second vent brace and have only one and I just used up the last of the baltic birch... being that I doubt it's ok to use only 1 vent brace is it ok to just get a scrap of some random 1/2 inch ply from Home Depot or Lowes to fab a second brace??? or should I pony up the dough and get a 4th sheet of Baltic Birch??
You should be fine unless not having "matching" braces is an issue...visually.
BEFORE you put the side on, check for air leaks with a bright light. Put it in one side of a panel and look down the adjacent one, in a dark room. If you see light, put more PL in there til you can't see it anymore.

eh, it will be up against a wall so braces will be invisible.... as for the side thing.... done that already..... we've used 2 bottles of PL already making sure that each seam is freaking sopped with the stuff. seriously doubt we're going to have leaks... did the flashlight thing on a few panels already... no leaks so far.... but yes.. I'll double check each seam before putting on that side panel.
ok, routing down the edges of the panels to fit on the side panel now.. tomorrow we install the access panel.... decided to make the panel over large so it goes on the outside of the side panel instead of having it recessed in and drilled into the "flange" that the plans list.... my question is... is it ok to just drill through the access panel and ito the side panel and not worry about hitting the ends of panels 1-4 or is that a bad idea (lose air tightness etc...)
ok, finished it this evening... got the terminal plate from Radio shack and got the amp today (got one of my buddies yamaha PA amps with a 25hz HPF built in to test it out so we didn't have time to break in the driver except through playback)... at first it sounded oooookkk... then the more we played through it... O....M.....F....G..... this thing puts out some nice CLEAN tight bass. absolutely incredible.... not a single air leak ANYWHERE that we could detect and we were fluctuating at 4-10 volts and we still felt it was just fing Thunderous.... I'm in love.
ok, now I'm having problems.... I moved it from my buddy's house to mine today... corner loaded it... and now it sounds very "boomy" and "hollow".... have to drive it a little harder to get the same SPL as my buddies house (even have to turn the amp up about 50% more on the gain knob to get the same volts sent to the sub at my house as well)....

lol, my wife looked at me funny when I did it.... found out the THT needed to be on the opposite corner (the corner where my SVS subs didn't do so hot in which is kinda funny)... the boominess went away and the spl level was nice and crazy... tweaked the low end of the eq on pa amp and it sounded a bit fuller too....

I wired my 2 svs subs back up to compare the SQ between the 2 types of subs....
no comparison... the THT can get really stinking loud but the SVS subs out class it in every way shape and form in actually QUALITY of sound.... bass actually sounds like bass with them instead of a massive undetailed "boom" (my THT sounds INCREDIBLY boomy... even after using the SPL meter and the crawl test to find the best place in my house for it). Also it sounds like I'm missing a HUGE amount of low frequency on this thing.... my svs subs (which are only rated to 20 and 25 hz repsectively dig SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much deeper it's not even funny. it's literally like I'm missing 50% or more of the actual bass frequencies with my THT.... the ONLY thing I can think of with that particular regard is the amp I'm using... it's a Yamaha EMX62M PA amp... and that the amp may have a HPF that's set like at 40-50 hz that I can't adjust or something....
this THT is loud alright but it's downright unenjoyable when I can get stinking loud but have it sound like some cheap boomy punks car sub
