Need some advice on stepping up my sound system.

#1 Post by neverendingbeatz »

Here is my situation,

I am currently throwing more events now since the last 3 events have been hits. So now I got some extra $$$ to upgrade my system. So I was wondering what should I get first? But first, let me tell you my usual set up. I run two rooms with strictly djs who play all types of music. This is what I currently have:

Room 1: Main Room
2 - Otop15 melded array
2 - Titan 48 30" w/ 3015lf's
Crown CE-2000 Amp 425watts@8ohms
DBX 266xl Compressor/Gate
31-Band Behringer EQ w/ 18 slope xover
1 - JBL eon for Monitor

Room 2: Side Room
2 - JBL TR-225's
1 - Precedent 660A Amp 300watts@8ohms
362 Sonic Maximizer
1 - JBL eon for Monitor

The events are currently pulling 500 plus people (expecting to have around 1000 people at my next event in March) and I have noticed that I am over stressing my equipment so from what you see, what are the first things I should do? I have about $1000 dollars to work with right now. All recommendations are welcome. Thanks.... :feedback:

All DJs? Sell the compressor. You don't need it for recorded music. Replace the EQ with a DCX/DEQ combo. Lose the JBL's and build yourself a proper 2nd room system, with tops and subs.

Side note: Why are you carrying such heavy iron amps? Is this a portable system, or mobile?

The compressor is there for limiting no doubt.

I'm running even older iron and it may never die. Keeps the back in shape!

What's up in the #2 room? I'm guessing it's a chill out zone so perhaps not worry about it for the meantime and get some heavier artillery for the main room. XTI4000 and double up everything speakerwise for the main room would be my recommendation for spending 1000 bucks to best effect.

I'm not sure what a 18 slope EQ / crossover is. EQ and xover in one unit? It's surplus with the XTI but you might need it for the 2nd room later.

+1 get your main room head a shoulders above the competition and the side room will happen on accident. :)

I was thinking build 2 more Otop15's and Titan's.

Then upgrade to a behringer dcx2496 & Crown XTI 4000.

Eventually I will end up with 8 - Otop15's and 8 ' Titan 48's 30". And I can move my 31-band eq to the side room. If only someone would take these JBL TR-225's from me I would build some Jack 15's....

Can the XTI 4000 run 8 Titan 48's w/ 3015lf's? I know my crown CE-2000 can run 8 Otop15's with 2515's.

If you keep 'em turned down a little. The CE2000 puts out 975 at 2 ohms/side. 8-2515s are rated at 2400 watts (8x300 ea). At war volume, you'll run of amp before you run out of speaker. However, I'd have to believe that 8 of those at half the power rating would be stupid loud.

6 - T39 3012LF
4 - OT12 2512
1 - T24
1 - SLA Pro
2 - XF210

I have ran 4 - JBL SRX 725's with this amp and it ran it 8 hours straight at high volume, crossed at 80hz. That is just from my experience. I don't think I will be pushing it that hard anymore, those Otop15's are pretty damm loud enough.

Havn't checked the other post, but can the straight array of peizo's reach out 200 plus feet? I'm thinking of a 4 per side stack, 2 melded array and 2 straight array.

Wow....you must kick little puppies too :loler:

That poor amp is probably ready for retirement. We used one of these for years too. I don't think we ever hit it that hard for that long.
