Best way to to remove duratex?

#1 Post by EW »

Greetings, has anyone tried to remove duratex before? My custom colored O15's never fully cured (my fault, too cold), and I think I'd at least have to knock down the bulk of the soft duratex before I put anything else on. :wall:

Thanks!

Do you mean as to have to redo it completely?

Paint scraper. Claw style. Heat gun will speed it along. Not fun. :wall:

Don't remove it, cure it. A couple of days in the sun under some clear plastic ( ala a greenhouse) will do the trick.

I wonder if an infrared paint drying lamp would work too.

It would. Duratex cures best when heated to at least 120 degrees, which is easy to do in the summer by just leaving the cab sit in the sun for a day. In winter it's not so simple for most of us, unless you have access to an automotive paint booth.

Thanks for the feedback guys! I'm willing to try anything as stripping/sanding these sounds like as much fun as a colonoscopy.

At the time of the incident (>1.5 years ago), I spoke with Acrytech & was told that if the water isnt out of the paint before the solvents, that full cure will never be attained.

Gotta come up with a hotbox of sorts, not much sun out right now!

Thanks again!
